The broad-based committee\, chaired by event founder Lewes Mayor Ted Becker\, includes Lewes in Bloom co-chairs and founder\, a representative from City of Lewes Parks and Recreation Commission and the Zwaanendael Museum. This year Lewes in Bloom funded the purchase of 26\,931 tulip and 3\,950 spring bulbs that were planted in fall 2021 by members of Lewes in Bloom.\nThe timing of the tulips’ appearance is an inexact science and either milder or colder weather in advance of the event dates can increase the probability that the dates of the celebration may not exactly coincide with the tulips blooming! The event dates (April 1-17) span three weekends. \nThe locations of the plantings will be identified on the map produced in association with the celebration. More than 100 varieties will be on display. \nTiptoe To The Tulips Map: The event organizers created the Tiptoe To The Tulips Map that will be available in late March at the Lewes Chamber of Commerce’s Visitor Center located in the historic Fisher-Martin House in Zwaanendael Park. The visitor center is open Monday – Friday\, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.  Copies of the map will be available at brochure boxes throughout the historic commercial district. The map lists more than 20 locations where the bulbs were planted. It also has a schedule of activities associated with the Tulip Celebration. \nTulip Sale: On April 15 & 16 Lewes in Bloom will be selling tulips at the Bank Street Plaza on Second Street from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. \nHistory in Bloom Walking Tours: The Lewes Historical Society and Lewes in Bloom are partnering to offer walking tours on Saturday\, April 2nd and Saturday\, April 9th at 10:30 a.m.\, 12:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m.  The tours will be led by a historic guide and will provide information on Lewes’ rich maritime history.  A knowledgeable guide from Lewes in Bloom will be on the tour to point out the multiple tulip varieties found around Lewes.  The tours begin at the Cannonball House’s back garden\, behind 118 Front Street. The tour cost is $10 for adults and $5 for children 12 and under. Purchase tickets at www.historiclewes.org/visit/tours/html. \nFloral demonstrations and tulip sales: Ken Norman\, owner/designer at Floral Inspirations\, located on the beach side of the canal at 524 E. Savannah Road\, in the shops under the Beacon Motel\, will be hosting demonstrations on Friday and Saturday\, April 8th &  9th and 15th & 16th from 1 – 3 p.m.  Owner/designer Mayumi Williamson of Flowers by Mayumi\, located in the historic business district at 128 Second Street\, will be hosting a drop-in floral arranging demonstration on April 8 from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m.\nSpring Geranium Sale: Benefits the GFWC Zwaanendael Women’s Club’s Community Service Programs. They are taking orders until April 15 with pick up on Saturday\, April 30 at Lewes in Bloom’s Warehouse at 217 Schley Avenue\, Lewes. $7 per 6” pot – pink\, white\, red and salmon. DESCRIPTION:The Lewes Public Library Spoken Work Society presents the premiere public reading of a brand new work\, An Angel with Flowers; Broadway Bound in 2017 BC [Before Covid-19] by local playwright Jeffrey Dailey. Set in Lewes\, the play is a two-act tragicomedy following the lives of a couple enjoying retirement in their lovely home located in the beach environs\, contending with a pervasive loneliness and\, yes\, the suppressed consideration of losing life\, one before the other. In other words\, whose death will then end their longstanding relationship? It is that loneliness that stirs Donald Angel and John Flowers to seemingly pluck a nice young fellow – an artist\, to boot — out of life’s hustle and bustle and into by contrast\, their provincial lives. And\, never mind the young gent having appeared to them in a dream – a ruse\, perhaps? This is the foundation from which the play launches into broader and more abstract themes. Art and Nature and the creative process are pitted against lies and concealments both small and ‘huge’ and certainly they are consequential; consequential indeed\, to the point of propelling the play well beyond its limited\, local geography and on to realms of national and international security concerns.\nPlaywright Jeffrey Dailey’s pieces have garnered attention both in D.C. and in NYC. His piece Winter and Summer in May was given a reading and a workshop with “New Playwrights of D.C.” and was held under contract at NYC’s Circle in the Square. His one-act plays Pola and Max\, Bus 2021\, and Barnaby & Newnipurr have been used many times for acting workshops at the Herbert Berghof studio in Greenwich Village in NYC. \n“An Angel with Flowers; Broadway Bound in 2017 BC [Before Covid-19]\nFriday\, February 25 | 7:00 PM Eastern Time | In-person \nThis is a workshop performance\, meaning Mr. Dailey is seeking commentary on the piece as he develops it for professional production.
