SUMMARY:March's 31 Days of Raffles supporting the Lewes Library
DESCRIPTION:“Every day in March the library will draw a raffle ticket to win $100 in gift certificates purchased from local businesses. \nWith 31 days in March\, you have 31 chances to win! \nEvery day is a NEW drawing\, so if you do not win one day\, your ticket will remain in the pot and could be drawn the next day. All net proceeds benefit the Library. Tickets may be purchased at the library and select area businesses.” \nThis a super fun raffle BUT the only reason we are able to give away gift certificates to LOCAL BUSINESSES is because those businesses donated the gift certificates to us. RIGHT NOW things are a little uncertain for many of the brick and mortar stores and restaurants that serve our community\, and make it a wonderful place to live. \nPLEASE show these folks some love right now – pick up food to go or order delivery\, buy gift cards online\, shop their website\, and tell your friends\, family\, and neighbors to do the same (but only talk to them from a safe distance!). Below are all the businesses that supported 31 Chances. Even if a local business isn’t on the list\, show them love too. We’re all in this together.” \n*** BREAKING NEWS *** \nThe Library is pleased to announce there will be a special prize drawing on the final day of drawings (March 31).\nThe first name drawn on that day will win a $250 gift card for use at any of the following Highway One Companies: Rusty Rudder\, Northbeach\, Bottle & Cork\, Outlet Liquors\, Ivy\, and Dewey Beach Liquors. \nThe second\, and final\, name drawn will win the GRAND PRIZE of a Dogfish Head Craft Brewery gift box full of Dogfish merchandise and a gift certificate for a two-night stay at Lewes’ Dogfish Inn. This package is worth over $500. \nRAFFLE TICKETS ARE ON SALE!\nStop by the Circulation Desk. Raffle tickets are offered at the following levels: \n\nFEELING LUCKY: 1 ticket for $20\nTRIPLE PLAY: 3 tickets for $50\nLUCKY 7: 7 tickets for $100\n\nLewes Public Library | (302) 645-2733

This year Lewes in Bloom funded the purchase of 26\,931 tulip and 3\,950 spring bulbs that were planted in fall 2021 by members of Lewes in Bloom.\nThe timing of the tulips’ appearance is an inexact science and either milder or colder weather in advance of the event dates can increase the probability that the dates of the celebration may not exactly coincide with the tulips blooming! The event dates (April 1-17) span three weekends. \nThe locations of the plantings will be identified on the map produced in association with the celebration. More than 100 varieties will be on display. \nTiptoe To The Tulips Map: The event organizers created the Tiptoe To The Tulips Map that will be available in late March at the Lewes Chamber of Commerce’s Visitor Center located in the historic Fisher-Martin House in Zwaanendael Park. The visitor center is open Monday – Friday\, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.  Copies of the map will be available at brochure boxes throughout the historic commercial district. The tour cost is $10 for adults and $5 for children 12 and under. Purchase tickets at www.historiclewes.org/visit/tours/html. \nFloral demonstrations and tulip sales: Ken Norman\, owner/designer at Floral Inspirations\, located on the beach side of the canal at 524 E. Savannah Road\, in the shops under the Beacon Motel\, will be hosting demonstrations on Friday and Saturday\, April 8th &  9th and 15th & 16th from 1 – 3 p.m.  Owner/designer Mayumi Williamson of Flowers by Mayumi\, located in the historic business district at 128 Second Street\, will be hosting a drop-in floral arranging demonstration on April 8 from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m.\nSpring Geranium Sale: Benefits the GFWC Zwaanendael Women’s Club’s Community Service Programs. Our five gallery self-guided museum chronicles everything from the incredible 8\,000-year history of wine to how the vineyard grows in the modern day. \nDid You Know That … \n\nThe Egyptian’s invented the wine press?\nOr that It takes 16 lbs of fruit to make 1 gallon of wine?\nThe origin of the cultivated grapevine was Mesopotamia and not Italy?\nWine has been used as a medicine for countless centuries?\nIt takes at least 15 leaves to ripen one cluster of fruit?\n\nThese are just a few of the things you’ll learn on our tour surrounded by beautiful photographs\, illustrations\, and unique artifacts. Of course\, you can also see the processing equipment if you want to. But that’s what you see at every other winery in the country (yawn). \nThe first exhibit gallery of the tour also houses our art gallery space. Each month a new exhibit features the work of regional artists covering all genres from watercolor and oil paintings to photography and sculpture. A “Meet The Artist” reception is held at the beginning of the show and is always open to the public. \nClosed Dates / Hours of Operation\nWe are open\, year-round\, Tuesday thru Sunday from 11AM to 5PM. \nMondays (April through December) from 11AM to 5PM. \nFrom January through the beginning of April\, we are closed on Monday. \nWe are closed Thanksgiving Day\, Christmas Day\, New Years Day\, Easter Sunday and Election Day (general elections). \nWeekends are extremely busy\nAll customers are taken on a first-come\, first serve basis. SUMMARY:Spanish Conversation Group\, Lewes Library
DESCRIPTION:“Join Spanish speakers 18+ to improve your Spanish-speaking skills. \nBasic Spanish conversational ability is required. \nNOTE: this is not a traditional class — there is no Spanish teacher. Instead\, it is a group of people who already speak some Spanish\, or who have studied some Spanish\, or who are now taking some classes elsewhere. Members include retirees\, college students\, and others who have a range of Spanish speaking abilities. Members of the group make suggestions as to what we might do in future classes. There is usually a ‘homework’ assignment preparing each person to talk in Spanish for 2 to 3 minutes to the group. There are icebreakers\, games\, and invited guests who speak on various topics. Each week is different. Nearly all of the discussions are in Spanish. The group is very informal\, friendly and there is no pressure to participate.” \nThursdays | 2:00 PM Eastern Time | Hybrid (Online and In-person)\n \n  \nAll copy and pics from the website: Lewes Library

SUMMARY:Saint-Saens 101\, Julian Schwarz on cello\, MSO March Concert
DESCRIPTION:Soloist: Julian Schwarz\, Cello \nConcert Program: \nCello Concerto No. 2 – Camille Saint-Saëns \nSymphony No. 2 – Robert Schumann \nOverture from the Magic Flute – Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart \nPROOF OF VACCINATION REQUIRED AT DOOR \n  \n\n\n \n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDear Friends of the Mid-Atlantic Symphony\, \nThis season marks the heroic return of one of the most precious things in all of our existences: live performances. Thankfully\, the Mid-Atlantic Symphony never quite closed its doors. It is nevertheless with a sense of joy and enthusiasm that we return to performing with our full orchestra. The choice of an orchestra-focused program to open our season is to celebrate this return and Beethoven’s Eroica will pay tribute to all the unsung heroes of the period we have just gone through. The second movement\, the Funeral March will pay homage to the victims of COVID-19. \n In our November concert\, the young American oboist Joshua Lauretig will delight us with Marcello and Vivaldi and the MSO strings will shine in Tchaikovsky’s lush Serenade. For Holiday Joy and New Year’s Eve we welcome two of the world’s foremost sopranos: Norah Amsellem\, who has sung as prima donna in every major house in the world and up and coming star Leah Hawkins who is currently on the Metropolitan Opera roster and being featured in several upcoming productions. \n In March\, stellar French cellist Dominique de Williencourt will join us for Saint-Saëns’ less played Cello Concerto #2\, a marvel to be discovered. Opening the program will be the winner of our second Elizabeth Loker Concerto Competition and closing it will be Schumann’s haunting and glorious Symphony #2. \n And because we want to celebrate life’s beauty and happiness\, the luminous Mozart Clarinet Concerto and Brahms Symphony No. 2 will close our Return of the Great Orchestral Works season. We are delighted to welcome YaoGuang Zhai\, the amazing principal clarinetist of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra. \n We can’t wait to celebrate this thrilling Return of the Great Orchestral Works and share the joy of music with you! \n Sincerely\, \nJulien Benichou\, \nMusic Director \n\n\n\n\nPurchase Tickets | 2021-2022 Season Brochure\nAll copy and pics from the website: https://midatlanticsymphony.org
