SUMMARY:Regional Film Showcase
DESCRIPTION:The Rehoboth Beach Film Society (RBFS) is proud to present the 2023 Regional Film Showcase over three days (May 5 – 7) at the Society’s Cinema Art Theater in Lewes. Filmmakers from Delaware\, Maryland\, New Jersey\, New York\, Pennsylvania\, Virginia and Washington D.C. were invited to submit their work for consideration in the Showcase. Eligible films include shorts\, documentaries\, features and animation of any length. \nTo kick-off the Film Showcase\, RBFS is thrilled to feature a welcome reception and special screening of local filmmaker and Lewes resident\, Geoff Lerer’s feature SPENCER on Friday\, May 5 at 7:00 PM. Geoff has kindly offered to direct the ticket sales proceeds to the Rehoboth Beach Film Society’s 25 for 25 Spring fundraising campaign — to raise $25\,000 for the Main Theater’s new D-Cinema projector. \nThe film submission deadline has passed and the panel of judges is currently reviewing 24 submissions. \nThe final selection of films will be determined by local filmmaker and new Lewes resident\, LeAnn Erickson. Among her many accomplishments and filmmaker awards\, she is a film professor at Philadelphia’s Temple University. \nThe Regional Film Showcase winners will be announced at the conclusion of the final encore screening on Sunday\, May 7 at 2 pm. A Jury Prize of $1\,000 and Honorable Mention prize of $275 will be awarded. This program is funded in part by the Morris and Rosyln Fierberg Fund. \n“This festival provides local filmmakers with the opportunity to connect with an audience.”  Said Helen Chamberlin\, Executive Director. \nThe Regional Film Showcase official artwork was designed by Cinema Art Theater Associate Alix Robinson-Guy. Alix is a Millsboro resident and an English Major at McDaniel College. \nTickets are $5.00 per film and will go on-sale soon at rehobothfilm.com or at the Cinema Art Theater box office in Lewes beginning 30 minutes prior to the screening. \nThe mission of the Rehoboth Beach Regional Film Showcase is to promote the art of filmmaking by showcasing the films of emerging regional filmmakers in a professional theater\, to introduce audiences to the creative talents of regional filmmakers while providing opportunities for filmmakers and audiences to engage in post-screening discussions. \nFULL INFORMATION ON THE WEBSITE: https://www.rehobothfilm.com/

Then in January\, some classes will be facilitated at the library via zoom as the facilitator\, Paul McFarlane will be traveling. Reach Paul as needed through email: falconfan62@verizon.net. Sign up for this FreeWrite session on the library website \n\nTHANKS PAUL MACFARLANE AND LYNN  MASSEY FOR SHARING THE OPPORTUNITY!!!\nFYI: Readers can reach out to share activities and events by emailing us Connect@DelawareRetiree.com\nSeveral times weekly RBWG members facilitate a FreeWrite open to all. Take a look at the options that suit you.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPer the RBWG website\, here are some details to explain more and give dates/times.\n“FreeWrite is the name given to an informal gathering of writers of ALL skill levels who meet to practice their writing in a friendly and nurturing atmosphere. The goal of the FreeWrites is to provide a place and an opportunity for people to have fun with their writing\, to explore different genres\, and to do this in the company of other writing enthusiasts. Each FreeWrite is facilitated by a Rehoboth Beach Writers Guild member who has experience in teaching\, writing and/or leading such groups. Participants write prose\, songs\, poetry and fiction\, work on novels during free writes\, and start short stories. Writing prompts are often (but not always) designed to focus on a particular aspect of writing: the use of sensory details\, the necessity of strong verbs\, the craft of writing dialogue.”\n\n\nI take myself by surprise. Writing at a FreeWrite! is like throwing a surprise party for yourself.  You never know what is going to spill out on your computer screen.  Is an evil twin lurking in the machinery? Or is it my fingers that somehow acquire access to long forgotten memories\, buried dreams and nightmares? No matter how many times I ask myself\, Where did that come from\,  No matter how many times I think I should have run out of surprises by now–something unexpected jumps out from where it’s been lurking behind a load of unpacked boxes in the basement of my mind.  I didn’t know I knew that\, I think.”\n—Sarah Barnett \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMORE LOCAL OPPORTUNITIES TO WRITE\nTraditional FreeWrites \n(visit the website for updates: FreeWrites)–and please note holiday dates when classes will not be held\nMondays \n8-10 a.m.\nRehoboth Beach Library (please use the back door).Carl Frey\, Joanne Sinsheimer\, and Tom Hoyer will alternate leading. Masks are optional\, though the library recommends them. Email FreeWrites will still be sent out at 9 a.m.\, so you have a choice.\n\nWednesdays\n6 p.m.\nLewes Public Library\nComputer Training Room\nTom Hoyer facilitates weekly in-person FreeWrites. He will continue to send out FW materials by email\, though earlier (around 5 p.m.). Sign up for this FreeWrite session on the Library website.ThursdaysOn summer hiatus after the May 26 meeting until Sep 1.
