SUMMARY:Archaeological Society of Delaware | Before the Dutch
DESCRIPTION:The Archaeological Society of Delaware invites everyone to join us and hear about recent studies in Sussex County history and prehistory. This month archaeologist Dr. Edward Otter will discuss what life was like for the people living in the Lewes area before the coming of Europeans. Interpretations are based on historic documents and archaeological research in the region. \nDr. Otter received his PhD from Catholic University in Washington\, DC. He is the owner and principal of Edward Otter\, Inc\, an archaeological consulting firm. Dr. Otter’s research interests include coastal adaptations and the analysis of past foodways. \nArchaeology is a scientific discipline that seeks to understand how people lived in the past. It is the only means of learning new information about those who left no written records and provides another avenue of study for those who did leave records. Delaware prehistory dates back of 12\,000 years and there is a rich colonial history: all of which can be studied through archaeology. \nThe Archaeological Society of Delaware is a non-profit organization established to promote the preservation and study of archaeological sites in Delaware. Advocacy is an important aspect of the society as sites succumb to development\, coastal erosion\, and infrastructure projects. DESCRIPTION:Through an agreement between South Coastal Library and the Rehoboth Beach Writers Guild (RBWG)\, the RBWG will host a weekly FreeWrites on Thursdays at South Coastal Library. \nA FreeWrite is an informal gathering of writers of ALL skill levels who practice creative writing in a friendly and nurturing atmosphere. It’s an opportunity to have fun with writing and explore different genres with other writing enthusiasts. Each FreeWrite is facilitated by a RBWG member with experience in teaching\, writing and/or leading such groups. Participants write brief prose\, songs\, poetry\, and fiction. Some participants use the time to brainstorm ideas for their own novel or to begin or continue short story writing. DESCRIPTION:Through an agreement between South Coastal Library and the Rehoboth Beach Writers Guild (RBWG)\, the RBWG will host a weekly FreeWrites on Thursdays at South Coastal Library. \nA FreeWrite is an informal gathering of writers of ALL skill levels who practice creative writing in a friendly and nurturing atmosphere. It’s an opportunity to have fun with writing and explore different genres with other writing enthusiasts. Each FreeWrite is facilitated by a RBWG member with experience in teaching\, writing and/or leading such groups. Participants write brief prose\, songs\, poetry\, and fiction. Some participants use the time to brainstorm ideas for their own novel or to begin or continue short story writing. Writing prompts are designed to focus on particular writing aspect e.g.\, the use of sensory details\, using strong verbs\, writing dialogue\, etc. FreeWrites are open to anyone in the local community (age 18+).
