SUMMARY:RBWG "FREE WRITES" non-members invited
DESCRIPTION:Weekly creative writing “FreeWrites” sponsored by the Rehoboth Beach Writers Guild are held at Millville Town Hall on Fridays 9 to 11 a.m. For details\, email our member Lynn Massey: Bookmom42@yahoo.com\n\n\nTHANKS PAUL MACFARLANE AND LYNN  MASSEY FOR SHARING THE OPPORTUNITY!!!\nFYI: Readers can reach out to share activities and events by emailing us Connect@DelawareRetiree.com\n\nSeveral times weekly RBWG members facilitate a FreeWrite open to all. Take a look at the options that suit you.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPer the RBWG website\, here are some details to explain more and give dates/times.\n“FreeWrite is the name given to an informal gathering of writers of ALL skill levels who meet to practice their writing in a friendly and nurturing atmosphere. The goal of the FreeWrites is to provide a place and an opportunity for people to have fun with their writing\, to explore different genres\, and to do this in the company of other writing enthusiasts. Each FreeWrite is facilitated by a Rehoboth Beach Writers Guild member who has experience in teaching\, writing and/or leading such groups. Participants write prose\, songs\, poetry and fiction\, work on novels during free writes\, and start short stories. Writing prompts are often (but not always) designed to focus on a particular aspect of writing: the use of sensory details\, the necessity of strong verbs\, the craft of writing dialogue.”\n\n\nI take myself by surprise. Writing at a FreeWrite! is like throwing a surprise party for yourself.  You never know what is going to spill out on your computer screen.  Is an evil twin lurking in the machinery? Or is it my fingers that somehow acquire access to long forgotten memories\, buried dreams and nightmares? No matter how many times I ask myself\, Where did that come from\,  No matter how many times I think I should have run out of surprises by now–something unexpected jumps out from where it’s been lurking behind a load of unpacked boxes in the basement of my mind.  I didn’t know I knew that\, I think.”\n—Sarah Barnett \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTraditional FreeWrites (visit the website for updates: FreeWrites)\nMondays \n8-10 a.m.\nRehoboth Beach Library (please use the back door).Carl Frey\, Joanne Sinsheimer\, and Tom Hoyer will alternate leading. SUMMARY:Charlie Frye and Company at Dickens Parlour Theatre
DESCRIPTION:Evening with dinner & magical entertainment\n\n\n\n\nSHOW ONLY $28 – $45 \nCharlie Frye began life as a clown\, performing alongside his father and grandfather. He then joined the circus and kidnapped a ballerina – his future wife\, Sherry. Together they created a distinctive\, original act that’s undeniably fresh\, yet designed to feel classic. An act that is universally applauded for its unparalleled blend of skill and physical comedy. \nAs one of the world’s most successful and sought after variety acts\, they’ve appeared on television in over twenty countries\, including numerous appearances on Le Grand Cabaret du Monde and starring in The World’s Top Shows. They’ve also opened for Liza Minnelli and traveled extensively with The Illusionists\, playing the famed Sydney Opera House and The Palace on Broadway. \nVoted “Specialty Act of the Year” in Las Vegas for their star turn in the “Folies Bergere”\, they’ve also received the coveted Ken Dodd Comedy Award in England\, and the Award of Excellence from the International Jugglers’ Association. \nLight fare AVAILABLE IN THE DINING ROOM AT 530PM \nPlease join us for a cocktail before the show \nFor the safety of our patrons we require that all audience members\, performers and staff be fully vaccinated. Please provide proof of vaccination and photo ID at the door. \n\n\n\nWhat’s up next?\n\n\n \nThe new Dickens Parlour Theatre in Oceanview is larger\, enabling us to present a wider range of entertainment offerings that will include not only the world-class magicians\, but also choral and musical offerings\, lectures such as the “Inside Story” program sponsored by the Coastal Point. And\, because of the unique cabaret setting we are planning\, the facility will be available for functions such as weddings\, birthday parties\, meetings\, and informal gatherings. \n info and pics from the website: https://dickensparlourtheatre.com/calendar/

SUMMARY:CHSP Borrow a Bike\, Enjoy Cycling the Park to Warm Up on Winter Days!
DESCRIPTION:Winter Opening Hours  start November 1st\,  for the Bike Barn and\nNature Center:  Wednesday  thru Sunday ( closed  on Mondays & Tuesdays) 10am – 3pm  for the Barn\, 10am – 4pm Nature Center   Bikes can be borrowed for up to 2 hours weather permitting\, with last bikes out at 2 pm.  All bikes must be returned to the Bike Barn by 2:45 pm.\n We will be enforcing new procedures to ensure safety for our Bike Barn volunteers and visitors. This will include restricting access to the Bike Barn buildings – visitors will pick up and return bikes and helmets outside the Bike Barn.\n\n\nWe provide free loaner bikes…\nOne of the most popular activities provided by FOCHSP is” Borrow-a-Bike”. Here people can borrow a bike to ride within the park and see the sights for up to 2 hours…at no charge! That said\, we do gladly accept all donations to help us offset the cost of new bikes\, helmets and maintenance.  There is a  secure donation box  on the left front of the Barn.\nSince its start in 1997\, Borrow-a-Bike has always been operated entirely by volunteers and funded by donations. In 2014\, bikes were borrowed by around  13\,000 people and  that number  continues to  grow\, reaching more than 14\,000 in 2019\n \nBorrowers must complete the form provided inside the Nature Center and leave a photo-ID there for up to 5 riders\, prior to picking up bikes. \n Groups larger than 10 must  email or  call us ahead of time to schedule your  requirements  –  FOCHSP@gmail.com   302-858-6127 \n\nAll riders under 18 must wear helmets.\nOrange cones will be placed at 6-foot intervals; groups must stay at the next available cone until it is their turn to pick up bikes.\nBikes will be available for pickup at the bike racks located between the Nature Center and Bike Barn.\nBikes and helmets are to be returned on the opposite side of the Bike Barn.\nBikes must stay on trails and in the Park at all times\nBikes must be returned within 2 hours\, but no later than 2:45 p.m.\nPlease check back here regularly as days and hours of operation may be subject to change\n\n\nFind more great park info: https://destateparks.com/Beaches/CapeHenlopen\nThe Story of Borrow-A- Bike \nThe Borrow-A-Bike program began with a plan in 1997 and has always been operated by volunteers. In 1999\, a $3\,000 grant from The Delaware Bicycle Council enabled the purchase of 15 bikes that were housed in a shed built by the Lion’s Club. Additional donations — including $1\,000 from Dupont — increased the program to 35 bicycles operated from a new shed supplied by the Friends. The current “Bike Barn”  which stands next to the Nature Center was built from scratch in 2009 by Friends volunteers under the leadership of Stan Lemiska\, Chuck Moore\, and Carl Lofgren. Today\, the program includes  more than 40 adult  bicycles\, including 2 with baby carriers\, 12 children’s bicycles\, and  2 double baby trailers.  Due to the  popularity of the program a second  Bike Barn has recently  been built  behind the existing one. This will also  free up much needed space  for the ongoing maintenance  and repairs of the bikes. \nInterested in Volunteering?  \nWe always need  volunteers to  act as “ambassadors”  who help  our visitors select the right bike for their needs\, and/or  as mechanics to service and make running repairs  to our fleet.   If you would like to volunteer and want to know more about what is involved  please stop by the Barn  which is next to the Nature Center anytime we are open \,  or  go to “contact us” on this site and   call or email us.  You will receive a very warm welcome to our group for however much or little time you are able to give.\nInfo and pics from Friends of CHSP website
