SUMMARY:CHSP Borrow a Bike\, Enjoy Cycling the Park to Warm Up on Winter Days!
DESCRIPTION:Winter Opening Hours  start November 1st\,  for the Bike Barn and\nNature Center:  Wednesday  thru Sunday ( closed  on Mondays & Tuesdays) 10am – 3pm  for the Barn\, 10am – 4pm Nature Center   Bikes can be borrowed for up to 2 hours weather permitting\, with last bikes out at 2 pm.  All bikes must be returned to the Bike Barn by 2:45 pm.\n We will be enforcing new procedures to ensure safety for our Bike Barn volunteers and visitors. This will include restricting access to the Bike Barn buildings – visitors will pick up and return bikes and helmets outside the Bike Barn.\n\n\nWe provide free loaner bikes…\nOne of the most popular activities provided by FOCHSP is” Borrow-a-Bike”. Here people can borrow a bike to ride within the park and see the sights for up to 2 hours…at no charge! That said\, we do gladly accept all donations to help us offset the cost of new bikes\, helmets and maintenance.  There is a  secure donation box  on the left front of the Barn.\nSince its start in 1997\, Borrow-a-Bike has always been operated entirely by volunteers and funded by donations. In 2014\, bikes were borrowed by around  13\,000 people and  that number  continues to  grow\, reaching more than 14\,000 in 2019\n \nBorrowers must complete the form provided inside the Nature Center and leave a photo-ID there for up to 5 riders\, prior to picking up bikes. \n Groups larger than 10 must  email or  call us ahead of time to schedule your  requirements  –  FOCHSP@gmail.com   302-858-6127 \n\nAll riders under 18 must wear helmets.\nOrange cones will be placed at 6-foot intervals; groups must stay at the next available cone until it is their turn to pick up bikes.\nBikes will be available for pickup at the bike racks located between the Nature Center and Bike Barn.\nBikes and helmets are to be returned on the opposite side of the Bike Barn.\nBikes must stay on trails and in the Park at all times\nBikes must be returned within 2 hours\, but no later than 2:45 p.m.\nPlease check back here regularly as days and hours of operation may be subject to change\n\n\nFind more great park info: https://destateparks.com/Beaches/CapeHenlopen\nThe Story of Borrow-A- Bike \nThe Borrow-A-Bike program began with a plan in 1997 and has always been operated by volunteers. In 1999\, a $3\,000 grant from The Delaware Bicycle Council enabled the purchase of 15 bikes that were housed in a shed built by the Lion’s Club. Additional donations — including $1\,000 from Dupont — increased the program to 35 bicycles operated from a new shed supplied by the Friends. The current “Bike Barn”  which stands next to the Nature Center was built from scratch in 2009 by Friends volunteers under the leadership of Stan Lemiska\, Chuck Moore\, and Carl Lofgren. Today\, the program includes  more than 40 adult  bicycles\, including 2 with baby carriers\, 12 children’s bicycles\, and  2 double baby trailers.  Due to the  popularity of the program a second  Bike Barn has recently  been built  behind the existing one. This will also  free up much needed space  for the ongoing maintenance  and repairs of the bikes. \nInterested in Volunteering?  \nWe always need  volunteers to  act as “ambassadors”  who help  our visitors select the right bike for their needs\, and/or  as mechanics to service and make running repairs  to our fleet.   If you would like to volunteer and want to know more about what is involved  please stop by the Barn  which is next to the Nature Center anytime we are open \,  or  go to “contact us” on this site and   call or email us.  You will receive a very warm welcome to our group for however much or little time you are able to give.\nInfo and pics from Friends of CHSP website

The broad-based committee\, chaired by event founder Lewes Mayor Ted Becker\, includes Lewes in Bloom co-chairs and founder\, a representative from City of Lewes Parks and Recreation Commission and the Zwaanendael Museum. This year Lewes in Bloom funded the purchase of 26\,931 tulip and 3\,950 spring bulbs that were planted in fall 2021 by members of Lewes in Bloom.\nThe timing of the tulips’ appearance is an inexact science and either milder or colder weather in advance of the event dates can increase the probability that the dates of the celebration may not exactly coincide with the tulips blooming! The event dates (April 1-17) span three weekends. \nThe locations of the plantings will be identified on the map produced in association with the celebration. More than 100 varieties will be on display. \nTiptoe To The Tulips Map: The event organizers created the Tiptoe To The Tulips Map that will be available in late March at the Lewes Chamber of Commerce’s Visitor Center located in the historic Fisher-Martin House in Zwaanendael Park. The visitor center is open Monday – Friday\, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.  Copies of the map will be available at brochure boxes throughout the historic commercial district. The map lists more than 20 locations where the bulbs were planted. It also has a schedule of activities associated with the Tulip Celebration. \nTulip Sale: On April 15 & 16 Lewes in Bloom will be selling tulips at the Bank Street Plaza on Second Street from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. \nHistory in Bloom Walking Tours: The Lewes Historical Society and Lewes in Bloom are partnering to offer walking tours on Saturday\, April 2nd and Saturday\, April 9th at 10:30 a.m.\, 12:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m.  The tours will be led by a historic guide and will provide information on Lewes’ rich maritime history.  A knowledgeable guide from Lewes in Bloom will be on the tour to point out the multiple tulip varieties found around Lewes.  The tours begin at the Cannonball House’s back garden\, behind 118 Front Street. The tour cost is $10 for adults and $5 for children 12 and under. Purchase tickets at www.historiclewes.org/visit/tours/html. \nFloral demonstrations and tulip sales: Ken Norman\, owner/designer at Floral Inspirations\, located on the beach side of the canal at 524 E. Savannah Road\, in the shops under the Beacon Motel\, will be hosting demonstrations on Friday and Saturday\, April 8th &  9th and 15th & 16th from 1 – 3 p.m.  Owner/designer Mayumi Williamson of Flowers by Mayumi\, located in the historic business district at 128 Second Street\, will be hosting a drop-in floral arranging demonstration on April 8 from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m.\nSpring Geranium Sale: Benefits the GFWC Zwaanendael Women’s Club’s Community Service Programs. They are taking orders until April 15 with pick up on Saturday\, April 30 at Lewes in Bloom’s Warehouse at 217 Schley Avenue\, Lewes. $7 per 6” pot – pink\, white\, red and salmon. Email orders to mRocksRN@comcast.net or checks payable to Z Club\, mailed to P.O. Box 100\, Lewes\, DE 19958 \nTulip arrangements and Art Exhibitions: There are additional activities associated with the Tulip Celebration including tulip arrangements by the Sussex Gardeners on display in the Zwaanendael Museum\, and art exhibitions at the Cape Artists of Lewes Gallery\, located at 110 W. DESCRIPTION:Soloist: Julian Schwarz\, Cello \nConcert Program: \nCello Concerto No. 2 – Camille Saint-Saëns \nSymphony No. 2 – Robert Schumann \nOverture from the Magic Flute – Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart \nPROOF OF VACCINATION REQUIRED AT DOOR \n  \n\n\n \n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDear Friends of the Mid-Atlantic Symphony\, \nThis season marks the heroic return of one of the most precious things in all of our existences: live performances. Thankfully\, the Mid-Atlantic Symphony never quite closed its doors. It is nevertheless with a sense of joy and enthusiasm that we return to performing with our full orchestra. The choice of an orchestra-focused program to open our season is to celebrate this return and Beethoven’s Eroica will pay tribute to all the unsung heroes of the period we have just gone through. The second movement\, the Funeral March will pay homage to the victims of COVID-19. \n In our November concert\, the young American oboist Joshua Lauretig will delight us with Marcello and Vivaldi and the MSO strings will shine in Tchaikovsky’s lush Serenade. For Holiday Joy and New Year’s Eve we welcome two of the world’s foremost sopranos: Norah Amsellem\, who has sung as prima donna in every major house in the world and up and coming star Leah Hawkins who is currently on the Metropolitan Opera roster and being featured in several upcoming productions. \n In March\, stellar French cellist Dominique de Williencourt will join us for Saint-Saëns’ less played Cello Concerto #2\, a marvel to be discovered. Opening the program will be the winner of our second Elizabeth Loker Concerto Competition and closing it will be Schumann’s haunting and glorious Symphony #2. \n And because we want to celebrate life’s beauty and happiness\, the luminous Mozart Clarinet Concerto and Brahms Symphony No. 2 will close our Return of the Great Orchestral Works season. We are delighted to welcome YaoGuang Zhai\, the amazing principal clarinetist of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra. \n We can’t wait to celebrate this thrilling Return of the Great Orchestral Works and share the joy of music with you! \n Sincerely\, \nJulien Benichou\, \nMusic Director \n\n\n\n\nPurchase Tickets | 2021-2022 Season Brochure\nAll copy and pics from the website: https://midatlanticsymphony.org
