DESCRIPTION:Love your nonfiction (biographies\, memoirs\, etc.)—if so the Rehoboth Public Lbrary has the perfect group for you. “Come join our nonfiction book club at the Rehoboth Beach Public Library!  Meetings are currently being held virtually over Zoom. \nFor November’s meeting\, we will be reading and discussing The Lady From the Black Lagoon\, by Mallory O’Meara.  The book tells the story of Milicent Patrick\, the only woman to design of one of Universal Studio’s classic horror monsters.  The author also reflects on her own experiences in Hollywood and how they relate to the rise and fall of Milicent’s career. \nCopies will be available at the library and the eBook is available on Hoopla. If you would like to pick up the book in person\, our library is currently open from 10-3 on Tuesdays and Thursdays.  We are also continuing to offer curbside pickup services on Mondays through Fridays.  Please call the library to schedule an appointment if you would like to use that option. \nRegistration is required so that we can email you the link to the Zoom meeting room. For more on how to use Zoom\, check out these written instructions or this video tutorial. DESCRIPTION:Join the Sussex Bird Club for a live\, interactive monthly meeting. \n\n“When you think of the birds of Hawaii you probably think first of its endemic forest birds. Many of these birds are brightly colored and highly evolved to survive in remote forest patches on isolated islands in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. If you go to Hawaii to see birds\, these are probably the birds you go to see. It usually comes as a surprise that the official bird of the city of Honolulu is not one of these iconic Hawaiian birds. Instead\, that distinction goes to a seabird common to the tropics – the White Tern. Hawaiians refer to this plain white bird as the Manu o Ku\, a name loaded with historical and cultural significance. This talk focuses on this least colorful of the birds of Hawaii\, a real “urban seabird.” \nPresented by Rich Downs\, who for the past 4 years has been coordinating the efforts of an array of government agencies\, education institutions and conservation groups to enhance awareness\, appreciation\, understanding and conservation of the white tern. He also leads a citizen science project to better understand this understudied species and the fascinating story of its unique relationship with the most developed part of the Hawaiian Island chain. DESCRIPTION:The Last Vampire and The Vampyre | A Celebration of Halloween\n“The Lewes Public Library Shakespeare Festival brings New York City’s own David Logan Rankin to perform staged readings of two vampire-themed pieces for Halloween. The first\, John William Polidoris’ 1819 piece\, The Vampyre\, was written as a short work of prose fiction as part of a contest that produced Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein. It is perhaps the first written work to combine the various elements of the vampire tale into a coherent literary work. Joining Rankin in this reading is Lewes’ own Sadie Andros. The second piece The Last Vampire\, is a solo piece written and read by David Logan Rankin. It is a chilling experience as the audience interacts directly with the vampire as he tells us of his experiences in the hundreds of years of his existence amongst us. \nThis performance is on the lawn behind the library. For your comfort\, bring a lawn chair or blanket to sit on\, and dress for the weather. (It’s very addictive.) You will learn three “doodles” during each session. You can then put your doodles together to create something like what you see here. It all starts with a single line.\n\nAll you need is a fineline marker (micron markers and fine sharpies work fine) and some paper. Have something to make circles (canned food\, jar lids\, a glass\, etc.).\n\nFee is $15 for the full month.  You may take one or all\, the fee is the same… One monthly fee of just $15. The homes on this event’s two-day self-paced tour always have very different landscapes\, interior and architectural designs\, ranging from historically significant to contemporary and eco-friendly. Some homes have quite an evolving history and many homeowners showcase memories\, artwork\, and collections in creative ways. \nThe Art League’s Historic Peter Marsh Homestead will be transformed with furnishings and décor by the tour underwriter J. Conn Scott. Richard Scott and Lisa Scott will blend modern furnishings and decorations to compliment the historical design in the first floor of the Homestead. In previous years\, this has ranged from a white\, slipcovered cottage look to a more colorful turquoise theme\, and has some years included outdoor dining arrangements with elaborate table-scapes.
