SUMMARY:Sussex County Annual Food Drive
DESCRIPTION:“The 38th annual food drive kicks off [Nov 1] and runs through the end of December. The public is asked to do their part to “Pack the Pod” – a 14-foot by 7-foot portable storage shed that will be set up at The Circle later this month – with donated food items. \nIn 2019\, before the pandemic\, the drive collected nearly 30\,000 items for local food pantries. Since its inception in the 1980s\, Caroling on The Circle [‘kick off event’] has raised nearly 750\,000 food items. \nCounty Administrator Todd F. Lawson said Caroling on The Circle helps bring the community closer\, a familiar theme especially in the past year and a half as communities across the nation and around the world have worked together to overcome the challenges caused or heightened by the coronavirus pandemic. \n“The last couple of years have changed the world in so many ways\, right down to our personal routines and how we live our day-to-day lives\,” Mr. Lawson said. “What hasn’t changed\, though\, is that giving spirit that has always been so strong in Sussex County\, and made this community so special. We didn’t need a pandemic to prove that to ourselves. It’s on display every day in this community\, and I’m proud that we are able to continue that tradition with Caroling on The Circle and the ‘Pack the Pod’ food drive this year.” \nDonations of food items can be dropped off from now until the end of December\, at the County Administrative Offices building\, next to the courthouse\, in Georgetown. Receptacles will be available outside the County complex\, allowing the public to make ‘no contact’ drops 24 hours a day throughout the holiday season. Staff will routinely collect items and ‘Pack the Pod’ before delivering food to pantries. \nFor more information\, call (302) 855-7700.” info from website: https://sussexcountyde.gov/news/sussex-county-kicks-annual-food-drive-announces-caroling-circle-return \nDrop off non-perishables at Administrative Offices in outdoor receptacles.

SUMMARY:Lewes Tulip Celebration
DESCRIPTION:Lewes Tulip Celebration\, Celebrating our Dutch Heritage\nVarious sites throughout Lewes \n\nTiptoe to the Tulips Map\nPlant & Flower Sales\nHistory in Bloom Walking Tours\nFloral Demonstrations\nArt Exhibitions\n\nSponsored by Lewes in Bloom\, Lewes Chamber of Commerce\,  City of Lewes\, Lewes Historical Society and Southern Delaware Tourism\nFor information\, call 302 645-8073 or visit www.leweschamber.com \n13th ANNUAL LEWES TULIP CELEBRATION BLOOMS APRIL 1 – 17\, 2022 \nThe 13th  annual Lewes Tulip Celebration\, jointly sponsored by the Lewes Chamber of Commerce and Lewes in Bloom\, will be blossoming April 1 – 17\, 2022. The broad-based committee\, chaired by event founder Lewes Mayor Ted Becker\, includes Lewes in Bloom co-chairs and founder\, a representative from City of Lewes Parks and Recreation Commission and the Zwaanendael Museum. This year Lewes in Bloom funded the purchase of 26\,931 tulip and 3\,950 spring bulbs that were planted in fall 2021 by members of Lewes in Bloom.\nThe timing of the tulips’ appearance is an inexact science and either milder or colder weather in advance of the event dates can increase the probability that the dates of the celebration may not exactly coincide with the tulips blooming! The event dates (April 1-17) span three weekends. \nThe locations of the plantings will be identified on the map produced in association with the celebration. More than 100 varieties will be on display. \nTiptoe To The Tulips Map: The event organizers created the Tiptoe To The Tulips Map that will be available in late March at the Lewes Chamber of Commerce’s Visitor Center located in the historic Fisher-Martin House in Zwaanendael Park. The visitor center is open Monday – Friday\, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.  Copies of the map will be available at brochure boxes throughout the historic commercial district. The map lists more than 20 locations where the bulbs were planted. It also has a schedule of activities associated with the Tulip Celebration. \nTulip Sale: On April 15 & 16 Lewes in Bloom will be selling tulips at the Bank Street Plaza on Second Street from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. \nHistory in Bloom Walking Tours: The Lewes Historical Society and Lewes in Bloom are partnering to offer walking tours on Saturday\, April 2nd and Saturday\, April 9th at 10:30 a.m.\, 12:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m.  The tours will be led by a historic guide and will provide information on Lewes’ rich maritime history.  A knowledgeable guide from Lewes in Bloom will be on the tour to point out the multiple tulip varieties found around Lewes.  The tours begin at the Cannonball House’s back garden\, behind 118 Front Street. The tour cost is $10 for adults and $5 for children 12 and under. Purchase tickets at www.historiclewes.org/visit/tours/html. \nFloral demonstrations and tulip sales: Ken Norman\, owner/designer at Floral Inspirations\, located on the beach side of the canal at 524 E. Savannah Road\, in the shops under the Beacon Motel\, will be hosting demonstrations on Friday and Saturday\, April 8th &  9th and 15th & 16th from 1 – 3 p.m.  Owner/designer Mayumi Williamson of Flowers by Mayumi\, located in the historic business district at 128 Second Street\, will be hosting a drop-in floral arranging demonstration on April 8 from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m.\nSpring Geranium Sale: Benefits the GFWC Zwaanendael Women’s Club’s Community Service Programs. They are taking orders until April 15 with pick up on Saturday\, April 30 at Lewes in Bloom’s Warehouse at 217 Schley Avenue\, Lewes. $7 per 6” pot – pink\, white\, red and salmon. Email orders to mRocksRN@comcast.net or checks payable to Z Club\, mailed to P.O. Box 100\, Lewes\, DE 19958 \nTulip arrangements and Art Exhibitions: There are additional activities associated with the Tulip Celebration including tulip arrangements by the Sussex Gardeners on display in the Zwaanendael Museum\, and art exhibitions at the Cape Artists of Lewes Gallery\, located at 110 W. Third Street\, including their Open House on April 2 from 10 a.m.- 5 p.m.  and the “Sur La Table” opening at the Peninsula Gallery at 520 E. SUMMARY:Julia at Cinema Art Theater
DESCRIPTION:View Screenings \n \n  \nStarts Wednesday\, November 24 \nJulia is a delicious documentary about America’s first female food icon. \nFrom Academy Award®-nominated and Emmy® Award-winning filmmakers Julie Cohen and Betsy West (RBG\, My Name is Pauli Murray)\, Julia brings to life the legendary cookbook author and television superstar who changed the way Americans think about food\, television\, and even women. Using never-before-seen archival footage\, personal photos\, first-person narratives\, and cutting-edge\, mouth-watering food cinematography\, the film traces Julia Child’s 12-year struggle to create and publish the revolutionary Mastering the Art of French Cooking (1961) which has sold more than 2.5 million copies to date\, and charts her rapid ascent to become the country’s most unlikely television star. It’s the empowering story of a woman who found her purpose – and her fame – at 50\, and took America along on the whole delicious journey. [2021\, US\, 95 min\, Rated: PG-13] \nGlenn Kenny of The New York Times writes\, “Julia is an apt tribute to a life well-lived and well-fed.” Andy Crump of Paste Magazine remarks\, “Thoroughly enjoyable\, brimming with things to say\, constructed in a manner that ducks pretense for relatability.” \n  \n  \nLocation: Cinema Art Theater \nAdmission \n\n$8.00 RBFS Members\n$11.00 General\n\nClick on the desired screening times for tickets \n\n\n\n\nThu\nDec 02\n5:30 PM\n   Cinema Art Theater\n\n\n\n\n \nposted with permission from Rehoboth Film Society website

SUMMARY:Brian Wilson: Long Promised Road at Cinema Art Theater
DESCRIPTION:View Screenings \n \n  \nStarts Wednesday\, November 17 \nBrian Wilson: Long Promised Road is an entertaining documentary about a legendary musical genius. \nJoin The Beach Boys’ co-founder Brian Wilson on an intimate journey through his famous career as he reminisces with Rolling Stone editor and longtime friend\, Jason Fine. The duo cruise around the city of L.A.\, which Wilson knows so well\, to visit old haunts and give him the opportunity to reflect on his life and music. The documentary features a new song “Right Where I Belong” written specifically for this film and performed by Wilson. Weighing in are admirers and those close to him including interviews with Elton John\, Bruce Springsteen\, and Nick Jonas among others. This enjoyable\, informative\, and at times heart-tugging road trip provides both a first-hand\, intimate look into Wilson’s storied life and further inspiration to anyone who has been touched by his music. [2021\, US\, 93 min\, Rated: NR] \nSheri Linden of the Hollywood Reporter writes\, “In his interactions with his band\, with Fine\, with his family\, the documentary is a portrait of friendship and love as much as it’s about music.” Christopher Bourne of In Review Online says\, “The intended effect isn’t to feel sorry for Wilson; instead\, it’s to marvel at the strength it took to survive\, persevere\, and emerge on the other side\, damaged but still intact.” \nLocation: Cinema Art Theater \nAdmission \n\n$8.00 RBFS Members\n$11.00 General\n\nClick on the desired screening times for tickets \n\n\n\n\nThu\nDec 02\n6:30 PM\n   Cinema Art Theater\n\n\n\n\n \nposted with permission from Rehoboth Film Society website
