DESCRIPTION:IMANI WINDS \nBrandon Patrick George\, flute \nToyin Spellman-Diaz\, oboe \nMark Dover\, clarinet \nKevin Newton\, French horn \nMonica Ellis\, bassoon \nCelebrating over 20 years of music making\, the twice Grammy nominated Imani Winds has led both a revolution and the evolution of the wind quintet through their dynamic playing\, adventurous programming\, imaginative collaborations and outreach endeavors that have inspired audiences of all ages and backgrounds. \nThe ensemble’s playlist embraces traditional chamber music repertoire\, and as a 21st century group\, Imani Winds is devoutly committed to expanding the wind quintet repertoire by commissioning music from new voices that reflect historical events and the times in which we currently live. \nPresent and future season performances include a Jessie Montgomery composition inspired by her great-grandfather’s migration from the American south to the north; and\, socially conscious music by Andy Akiho designed to be performed both on the concert stage and in front of immigrant detention centers throughout the country. \nImani Winds regularly performs in prominent international concert venues\, including Carnegie Hall\, Lincoln Center\, The Kennedy Center\, Walt Disney Hall and the Kimmel Center. He is best known for stage and film adaptations of his musicals Jesus Christ Superstar (1973)\, Cats (1994)\, Evita (1996)\, and The Phantom of the Opera (2004).\nHe was born on March 22\, 1948\, in South Kensington in London\, England\, the first of two sons of William Lloyd Webber\, an organist and composer. His mother\, Jean Johnstone\, was a pianist and violinist. Young Andrew Lloyd Webber learned to play various musical instruments at home and began composing at an early age. He continued his music studies at Westminster School\, where his father was an organist. At the age of 9\, young Andrew was able to play the organ and assisted his father during performances. In 1964 he went to Oxford University as a Queens Scholar of history. \nIn 1965 he met lyricist Tim Rice and dropped out of school to compose musicals and pop songs. In 1968 he had his first success with the West End production of ‘Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat’. DESCRIPTION:Through an agreement between South Coastal Library and the Rehoboth Beach Writers Guild (RBWG)\, the RBWG will host a weekly FreeWrites on Thursdays at South Coastal Library. \nA FreeWrite is an informal gathering of writers of ALL skill levels who practice creative writing in a friendly and nurturing atmosphere.
