SUMMARY:Empire of Light @ CAT
DESCRIPTION:View Screenings \n  \nEmpire of Light is a poignant drama about the power of human connection during turbulent times\, from Academy Award® winning director Sam Mendes. \nEmpire of Light is a period piece set in the early 1980s about two employees at a once-majestic movie palace in an English coastal town. The main character cinema manager Hilary Small (Academy Award winner Olivia Coleman) is based closely on Mendes’s mother\, who struggled with mental health issues\, but the story is fictional\, chronicling an unlikely romance between Hilary and a young coworker (Micheal Ward) as well as the racial tensions of the early Thatcher era. Together they find a sense of belonging and experience the healing power of music\, cinema\, and community. The stellar cast also include BAFTA winner Michael Ward (Blue Story\, Top Boy) and Academy Award winner Colin Firth (The King’s Speech\, A Single Man). It also reunites Mendes with Academy Award winning cinematographer Roger Deakins (1917\, Skyfall). [2022\, UK\, 113 min\, Rating: R] \nMichael Calleri of the Niagara Gazette remarks\, “Empire of Light captures the magic of moviegoing and the dream world of watching films in a local theater perfectly. A superb Olivia Colman plays a middle-aged woman\, who enjoys the camaraderie found at her job as an assistant manager of the cinema.” \nOPEN CAPTION FOR ALL SCREENINGS \n  \nLocation: Cinema Art Theater (CAT) in Lewes \nAdmission \n\n$9.00 RBFS Members\n$11.50 General\n$5.00 Student – With Student ID\n\nClick on the desired screening times for tickets \n\n\n\n\nThu\nFeb 02\n2:00 PM\n   CAT – Main Theater\n\n\n\nFri\nFeb 03\n6:30 PM\n   CAT – Main Theater\n\n\n\nWed\nFeb 08\n6:00 PM\n   CAT – Main Theater\n\n\n\nAll copy and pics at the website: https://www.rehobothfilm.com/event/cinema-art-theater-this-week/#Empire-of-Light

SUMMARY:The Gin Game by Second Street Players
DESCRIPTION:ABOUT THE SHOW…\n\n \nThe Gin Game\, a 1978 Pulitzer Prize winning powerhouse written by D.L. Coburn\, is a tragicomedy in two acts. Serving up equal portions of “laugh out loud” hilarity and gut-wrenching angst\, the show centers around a man and a woman who meet on the porch of a run down nursing home that’s seen better days.\n\n \nFeeling as though they don’t belong\, Weller and Fonsia form a bond over their mutual distaste for their current circumstances and their enjoyment of playing gin together. They find in one another intellectual companionship and perhaps a hint of something more.\n\n \nBut something goes awry. Weller becomes increasingly frustrated as Fonsia proceeds to win game after game. It soon becomes evident that this is not simply about a game of cards\, but a battle of wills. As their card playing becomes more volatile\, Weller and Fonsia spar relentlessly towards a stunning finale.\n\n\n\nPatrons should be advised that there is some strong language in this show.\nALL COPY and tix from the website: http://www.secondstreetplayers.com/aboutTheGinGame.html\n  \n

SUMMARY:"All the Beauty and the Bloodshed" @ CAT
DESCRIPTION:All the Beauty and the Bloodshed is an award-winning documentary that follows the amazing journey of an iconic woman who fights big battles. \nDirected by Academy Award-winning filmmaker Laura Poitras\, All the Beauty and the Bloodshed is an epic\, emotional and interconnected story about internationally renowned artist and activist Nan Goldin told through her slideshows\, intimate interviews\, ground-breaking photography\, and rare footage of her personal fight to hold the pharmaceutical company\, Purdue Pharma maker of oxycontin\, owned by the Sackler family accountable for the opioid overdose epidemic in the United States. [2022\, US\, 122 min\, Rating: NR] \nIn the continuing tale of the Sackler family’s wealth and philanthropic contributions to such high society art establishments such as The Met\, victims and their surviving relatives have taken the family to task for its overtly targeted marketing of oxycontin. Based on the book\, Empire of Pain and the 2021 series\, Dopesick\, All the Beauty and the Bloodshed is one woman’s story of pain and loss from the opioid epidemic. Ricardo Gallegos of the New Statesman says\, “All the Beauty and the Bloodshed is a masterful conjunction of art\, activism\, and community. It’s a cathartic movie that depicts the world in all its rottenness but also the wonderful people that live in it.” Adam Nayman of The Ringer writes\, “Whether speaking\, seething\, or vaping\, Goldin is a uniquely compelling heroine.” \nLocation: Cinema Art Theater (CAT) in Lewes \nAdmission \n\n$9.00 RBFS Members\n$11.50 General\n$5.00 Student – With Student ID\n\nClick on the desired screening times for tickets \n\n\n\n\nFri\nFeb 03\n2:00 PM\n   CAT – JEMS Theater\n\n\n\nSat\nFeb 04\n5:00 PM\n   CAT – JEMS Theater\n\n\n\nWed\nFeb 08\n5:30 PM\n   CAT – JEMS Theater\n\n\n\n\nAll copy and pics from the website: https://www.rehobothfilm.com/event/cinema-art-theater-this-week/#All-The-Beauty-and-the-Bloodshed

SUMMARY:Black Opry
DESCRIPTION:We invite you to discover\, support and enjoy the Black artists that make magic in this space. One of the most valuable aspects of country music is its versatility and diversity in sound. Country\, blues\, folk\, and Americana music often overlap or weave together- these artists explore all of those sounds and intersections. Offered in two formats\, writers rounds and festival sets\, the Black Opry Revue showcases the diversity in sound and stories that Black artists offer to these genres. \nAbout Black Opry\n \nWebsite | Twitter | YouTube | Instagram\n\nBlack Opry is home for Black artists\, fans and industry professionals working in country\, Americana\, blues\, and folk music. Country and roots music have been made and loved by Black people since their conception. For just as long\, we have been overlooked and disregarded in the genre. Black Opry is changing that.\n \n\n“Black Opry is so powerful because it reflects not only this generation of artists\, musicians\, and songwriters\, but also writers\, critics\, journalists\, and fans who are interested in not just amplifying the work of Black country artists and other marginalized communities\,” says Dr. Charles L. Hughes\, historian and author of Country Soul\, “but also in creating networks and building a sense of community to avoid dealing with racist institutions.” Excerpt from rolling stone \n\n All copy and pics from the website: https://www.etix.com/ticket/p/5969198/black-opry-milton-milton-theatre
