SUMMARY:Fall Flicks Flash at Cinema Art Theater
DESCRIPTION:RBFS is pleased to announce a special event Fall Flicks Flash at Unitarian Universalists of Southern Delaware (UUSD)\, 30486 Lewes Georgetown Highway\, Lewes\, during the traditional RBIFF weekend. Four special films will be screened on Friday and Saturday (Nov.12 & 13)\, one at 10:30 am and another at 2 pm on both days. A Craft Faire will be held both days from 10 am – 5 pm. \nA safe distance seating plan will be utilized at the UUSD with just 50% of seats available. The current policy is that masks are required while in the UUSD building. Check the RBFS website closer to the special screenings for an update. \nAdmission is $12 per film and can be purchase online up to 5 pm the day prior to each film screening. If seats are available\, admissions can be purchased in cash only on the day of a film’s screening\, when doors open 30 minutes before the film starts. Please note that tickets are non-refundable and may not be exchanged for other screening dates/times or film title. \nNo food or beverages are available in the building except bottled water purchased at UUSD. Weather permitting\, a food tent will be outside selling home-made soups (unheated) and baked goods. \nSTORM LAKE\nView Screenings \n  \nStorm Lake is a charming documentary about a family-run community newspaper. \nMeet the Cullens — Iowa’s most impressive journalism family. For more than 30 years\, Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Art Cullen\, brother John\, son Tom\, wife Dolores\, and sister-in-law Mary — plus Art’s dog\, Peach the newshound — have published The Storm Lake Times\, a small-town\, twice-weekly newspaper that covers critically important local issues and serves as the glue that holds the town together. But\, against the backdrop of a collapsing journalism ecosystem and a crushing pandemic\, how can the paper avoid the fate of so many other newspapers? In directors Beth Levison and Jerry Risius’s film\, we see the Cullens hard at work\, battling the odds and sometimes each other\, as they meet the moment\, one deadline at a time. [2021\, US\, 85 min\, Rated: NR] \nElias Savada of Film International writes\, “A light yet cautionary examination of a tight-knit\, eponymous community in Iowa\, and how one family has provided an important lifeline via its journal to area folks. And how their readers support it back.” \n  \nLocation: Unitarian Universalists of Southern Delaware (UUSD) \nAdmission \n\n$12.00 General\n\nClick on the desired screening times for tickets \n\n\n\n\nFri\nNov 12\n10:30 AM\n   Unitarian Universalists of Southern Delaware (UUSD)\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCONFETTI\nView Screenings \n  \nConfetti is a compelling family drama\, based on writer/director Ann Hu’s own experiences\, that tells the story of young immigrant mother’s love for her special needs daughter. \nInflicted with a learning disability\, Meimei is considered a strange and dumb girl\, an outcast in her school and community. What no one recognizes\, however\, is that she possesses a gift waiting to be unlocked. The world seen through her eyes is unique and filled with magic. When her mother learns that Meimei suffers from dyslexia\, as do 1 in 10 people worldwide\, she will stop at nothing to help her\, including leaving her life in China behind and venturing alone with Meimei to New York City\, braving a place she knows nothing about and speaking not a word of English. Their pursuit of the impossible is a rollercoaster\, impacted by the numerous people who come into their lives and affect their journey along the way\, including Helen (Amy Irving)\, an outspoken writer who reluctantly takes them in. Navigating schools for a recent immigrant requiring learning accommodations presents unique challenges\, and what Lan and Meimei discover is that in a world where people are judged and often not seen\, their courage to believe in themselves against all odds will eventually lead them to people who do see them for who they truly are. [2020\, US\, 85 min\, Rated: NR] \nLois Alter Mark of Alliance of Women Film Journalists exclaims\, “Impossible to get out of your mind…packs a deeply emotional wallop.” \n  \n  \nLocation: Unitarian Universalists of Southern Delaware (UUSD) \nAdmission \n\n$12.00 General\n\nClick on the desired screening times for tickets \n\n\n\n\nFri\nNov 12\n2:00 PM\n   Unitarian Universalists of Southern Delaware (UUSD)\n\n\n\n\n\n\nHIVE\nView Screenings \n  \nHive is a beautifully made drama that tells the true story of a young Kosovan woman. \nThe winner of three 2021 Sundance Film Festival Awards (World Cinema: Grand Jury Prize\, Directing Award\, and Audience Award) and Kosovo’s official entry for the 2022 Oscars for Best International Film\, Hive follows Fahrije who\, like many of the other women in her patriarchal village\, has lived with fading hope and burgeoning grief since her husband went missing during the war in Kosovo. In order to provide for her struggling family\, she pulls together the other widows in her community to launch a business selling a local food product. Finding healing and solace in considering a future without their husbands\, their will to begin living independently is met with hostility. The men in the village condemn Fahrije’s efforts to empower herself and the women around her\, starting a feud that threatens their newfound sovereignty and the financial future of Fahrije’s family. Against the backdrop of Eastern Europe’s civil unrest and lingering misogyny\, Fahrije and the women of her village join in a struggle to find hope in the face of an uncertain future. [2021\, Albania\, 84 min\, Rated: NR\, In Albanian with English subtitles] \nAlissa Wilkinson of Vox writes\, “The film is stirring\, infuriating\, and ultimately hopeful.” \n  \n  \nLocation: Unitarian Universalists of Southern Delaware (UUSD) \nAdmission \n\n$12.00 General\n\nClick on the desired screening times for tickets \n\n\n\n\nSat\nNov 13\n10:30 AM\n   Unitarian Universalists of Southern Delaware (UUSD)\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLOVE IS LOVE IS LOVE\nView Screenings \n  \nLove is Love is Love is a woven tale of three stories that revolve around love\, commitment\, and loyalty between couples and friends. \n“Two for Dinner” is the story of a married couple temporarily living in two different locations who are more separated than they think. “Sailing Lesson” is about a long-married couple who spend a day on a sailboat rekindling their romance while unexpected events arise. “Late Lunch” is about a young woman who recently lost her mother and gathers together a group of her mother’s friends to share memories\, with surprising revelations. Directed by Eleanor Coppola (Paris Can Wait)\, the film’s cast includes Rosanna Arquette\, Kathy Baker\, Cybill Shepherd and Rita Wilson. [2021\, US\, 91 min\, Rated: PG-13] \n  \nLocation: Unitarian Universalists of Southern Delaware (UUSD) \nAdmission \n\n$12.00 General\n\nClick on the desired screening times for tickets \n\n\n\n\nSat\nNov 13\n2:00 PM\n   Unitarian Universalists of Southern Delaware (UUSD)

SUMMARY:Sussex County Annual Food Drive
DESCRIPTION:“The 38th annual food drive kicks off [Nov 1] and runs through the end of December. The public is asked to do their part to “Pack the Pod” – a 14-foot by 7-foot portable storage shed that will be set up at The Circle later this month – with donated food items. \nIn 2019\, before the pandemic\, the drive collected nearly 30\,000 items for local food pantries. Since its inception in the 1980s\, Caroling on The Circle [‘kick off event’] has raised nearly 750\,000 food items. \nCounty Administrator Todd F. Lawson said Caroling on The Circle helps bring the community closer\, a familiar theme especially in the past year and a half as communities across the nation and around the world have worked together to overcome the challenges caused or heightened by the coronavirus pandemic. \n“The last couple of years have changed the world in so many ways\, right down to our personal routines and how we live our day-to-day lives\,” Mr. Lawson said. “What hasn’t changed\, though\, is that giving spirit that has always been so strong in Sussex County\, and made this community so special. We didn’t need a pandemic to prove that to ourselves. It’s on display every day in this community\, and I’m proud that we are able to continue that tradition with Caroling on The Circle and the ‘Pack the Pod’ food drive this year.” \nDonations of food items can be dropped off from now until the end of December\, at the County Administrative Offices building\, next to the courthouse\, in Georgetown. Receptacles will be available outside the County complex\, allowing the public to make ‘no contact’ drops 24 hours a day throughout the holiday season. You do not have to be a “birder” to participate\, but you will leave being a birder for life! \nThe Hawk Watch operates under a Fish & Wildlife grant that is contingent in part on the Hawk Watch’s ability to solicit volunteer hours. SUMMARY:Passing at Cinema Art Theater
DESCRIPTION:View Screenings \n \n  \nStarts Friday\, November 5 \nPassing is a poignant drama that follows the unexpected reunion of two high school friends who have chosen to follow two very different paths in their adult lives. \nFrom first-time director Rebecca Hall comes this beautifully realized black-and-white film adaptation of American author Nella Larsen’s 1929 novel. Set in New York City during the Roaring ’20s\, Passing follows Irene (Tessa Thompson\, Westworld) and Clare (Ruth Negga\, Loving)\, two mixed-race childhood friends who reunite in middle class adulthood and become increasingly involved in each other’s lives and insecurities. While Irene identifies as African-American and is married to a black Harlem doctor (Andre Holland\, Moonlight)\, Clare “passes” as white and has married a prejudiced\, wealthy white man (Alexander Skarsgard\, True Blood). Their renewed acquaintance ignites a mutual obsession that threatens both of their carefully constructed realities. Passing debuted at the 2021 Sundance Film Festival.  [2021\, UK/US\, 98 min\, Rated: PG-13] \nPeter Travers of ABC News pens\, “Starring Tessa Thompson and Ruth Negga in two of the year’s best performances\, this mesmerizing film about race\, class\, and gender identity in the 1920s speaks urgently to right now and marks a brilliant directing debut for Rebecca Hall.”  Christy Lemire of Film Week says\, “A beautiful film. It’s achingly sad\, delicate\, and gorgeous.” \nLocation: Cinema Art Theater \nAdmission \n\n$8.00 RBFS Members\n$11.00 General\n\nClick on the desired screening times for tickets \n\n\n\n\nFri\nNov 05\n3:30 PM\n   Cinema Art Theater\n\n\n\nSat\nNov 06\n6:30 PM\n   Cinema Art Theater\n\n\n\nSun\nNov 07\n3:15 PM\n   Cinema Art Theater\n\n\n\nWed\nNov 10\n6:30 PM\n   Cinema Art Theater\n\n\n\nThu\nNov 11\n3:30 PM\n   Cinema Art Theater\n\n\n\n\n  \n

SUMMARY:Mass at Cinema Art Theater
DESCRIPTION:View Screenings \n \n  \n\nStarts Friday\, November 5 \nMass is a powerful drama that explores the aftermath of a violent tragedy and how it affects the lives of two couples in different ways. \nYears after an unspeakable school shooting that tore their lives apart\, two sets of parents (Jason Isaacs and Martha Plimpton\, Reed Birney and Ann Dowd of Handmaiden’s Tale) agree to talk privately in an attempt to move forward. In this emotionally powerful film\, first-time writer/director Fran Kranz thoughtfully examines their journey of grief\, anger\, and acceptance by coming face to face with the ones who have been left behind. [2021\, UK/US\, 111 min\, Rated: PG-13] \nRex Reed of the Observer says\, “A film of rare ideas and smashing performances.” Katie Walsh of the Tribune News Service writes\, “Mass doesn’t impose any meaning\, it simply observes the searching for it\, and the infinitesimally small salvations we can hope to find in the process.” \n\nLocation: Cinema Art Theater \nAdmission \n\n$8.00 RBFS Members\n$11.00 General\n\nClick on the desired screening times for tickets \n\n\n\n\nFri\nNov 05\n2:30 PM\n   Cinema Art Theater\n\n\nSat\nNov 06\n5:30 PM\n   Cinema Art Theater\n\n\nSun\nNov 07\n2:00 PM\n   Cinema Art Theater\n\n\nMon\nNov 08\n2:00 PM\n   Cinema Art Theater\n\n\nWed\nNov 10\n2:30 PM\n   Cinema Art Theater\n\n\nWed\nNov 10\n5:30 PM\n   Cinema Art Theater\n\n\nThu\nNov 11\n2:30 PM\n   Cinema Art Theater

SUMMARY:Only the Animals at Cinema Art Theater
DESCRIPTION:View Screenings \nOnly the Animals\, a riveting mystery drama that is told from the points of view of five principal characters. \nFollowing the disappearance of glamourous housewife Evelyne Ducat (Valeria Bruni Tedeschi)\, the lives of five people inextricably linked to her are brought together to devastating effect as the local police investigate the case. Elegantly structured and darkly funny\, this audacious thriller reveals the secret connections of a lonely farmer\, an unfaithful husband and wife\, a lovelorn waitress\, and an African con artist to expose a world of greed\, lust\, betrayal\, desperation\, and murder spanning the wintry French highlands to the sun-kissed streets of Sierra Leone. With an outstanding cast\, including an astonishing performance by Denis Menochet (Inglorious Basterds)\, Only The Animals finds director Dominik Moll at the height of his filmmaking powers as he masterfully exposes the secret connections that lie at the heart of this mystery. Winner of Best International Film at the 2021 Munich Film Festival. [2019\, France/Germany\, 116 min\, Rated: NR\, in French with English subtitles] \nAvi Offer of NYC Movie Guru writes\, “A spellbinding\, intelligent and emotionally engrossing crime thriller with Hitchcockian suspense.” Peter Bradshaw of the Guardian says\, “The film’s constituent parts… interlock like the workings of an intricate and malign musical box\, creating dashes of melodrama\, erotic obsession and even soap opera\, and all superbly performed.” \n  \nLocation: Cinema Art Theater \nAdmission \n\n$8.00 RBFS Members\n$11.00 General\n\nClick on the desired screening times for tickets \n\n\n\n\nWed\nNov 03\n5:30 PM\n   Cinema Art Theater\n\n\n\nThu\nNov 04\n2:30 PM\n   Cinema Art Theater\n\n\n\nFri\nNov 05\n5:30 PM\n   Cinema Art Theater\n\n\n\nSat\nNov 06\n2:30 PM\n   Cinema Art Theater\n\n\n\nThu\nNov 11\n5:30 PM\n   Cinema Art Theater

Staff will routinely collect items and ‘Pack the Pod’ before delivering food to pantries. \nFor more information\, call (302) 855-7700.” info from website: https://sussexcountyde.gov/news/sussex-county-kicks-annual-food-drive-announces-caroling-circle-return \nDrop off non-perishables at Administrative Offices in outdoor receptacles.

SUMMARY:CHSP Borrow a Bike\, Enjoy Cycling the Park to Warm Up on Winter Days!
DESCRIPTION:Winter Opening Hours  start November 1st\,  for the Bike Barn and\nNature Center:  Wednesday  thru Sunday ( closed  on Mondays & Tuesdays) 10am – 3pm  for the Barn\, 10am – 4pm Nature Center   Bikes can be borrowed for up to 2 hours weather permitting\, with last bikes out at 2 pm.  All bikes must be returned to the Bike Barn by 2:45 pm.\n We will be enforcing new procedures to ensure safety for our Bike Barn volunteers and visitors. This will include restricting access to the Bike Barn buildings – visitors will pick up and return bikes and helmets outside the Bike Barn.\n\n\nWe provide free loaner bikes…\nOne of the most popular activities provided by FOCHSP is” Borrow-a-Bike”. Here people can borrow a bike to ride within the park and see the sights for up to 2 hours…at no charge! That said\, we do gladly accept all donations to help us offset the cost of new bikes\, helmets and maintenance.  There is a  secure donation box  on the left front of the Barn.\nSince its start in 1997\, Borrow-a-Bike has always been operated entirely by volunteers and funded by donations. In 2014\, bikes were borrowed by around  13\,000 people and  that number  continues to  grow\, reaching more than 14\,000 in 2019\n \nBorrowers must complete the form provided inside the Nature Center and leave a photo-ID there for up to 5 riders\, prior to picking up bikes. \n Groups larger than 10 must  email or  call us ahead of time to schedule your  requirements  –  FOCHSP@gmail.com   302-858-6127 \n\nAll riders under 18 must wear helmets.\nOrange cones will be placed at 6-foot intervals; groups must stay at the next available cone until it is their turn to pick up bikes.\nBikes will be available for pickup at the bike racks located between the Nature Center and Bike Barn.\nBikes and helmets are to be returned on the opposite side of the Bike Barn.\nBikes must stay on trails and in the Park at all times\nBikes must be returned within 2 hours\, but no later than 2:45 p.m.\nPlease check back here regularly as days and hours of operation may be subject to change\n\n\nFind more great park info: https://destateparks.com/Beaches/CapeHenlopen\nThe Story of Borrow-A- Bike \nThe Borrow-A-Bike program began with a plan in 1997 and has always been operated by volunteers. In 1999\, a $3\,000 grant from The Delaware Bicycle Council enabled the purchase of 15 bikes that were housed in a shed built by the Lion’s Club. Additional donations — including $1\,000 from Dupont — increased the program to 35 bicycles operated from a new shed supplied by the Friends. The current “Bike Barn”  which stands next to the Nature Center was built from scratch in 2009 by Friends volunteers under the leadership of Stan Lemiska\, Chuck Moore\, and Carl Lofgren. Today\, the program includes  more than 40 adult  bicycles\, including 2 with baby carriers\, 12 children’s bicycles\, and  2 double baby trailers.  Due to the  popularity of the program a second  Bike Barn has recently  been built  behind the existing one. This will also  free up much needed space  for the ongoing maintenance  and repairs of the bikes. \nInterested in Volunteering?  \nWe always need  volunteers to  act as “ambassadors”  who help  our visitors select the right bike for their needs\, and/or  as mechanics to service and make running repairs  to our fleet.   If you would like to volunteer and want to know more about what is involved  please stop by the Barn  which is next to the Nature Center anytime we are open \,  or  go to “contact us” on this site and   call or email us.  You will receive a very warm welcome to our group for however much or little time you are able to give.\nInfo and pics from Friends of CHSP website
