SUMMARY:Passing at Cinema Art Theater
DESCRIPTION:View Screenings \n \n  \nStarts Friday\, November 5 \nPassing is a poignant drama that follows the unexpected reunion of two high school friends who have chosen to follow two very different paths in their adult lives. \nFrom first-time director Rebecca Hall comes this beautifully realized black-and-white film adaptation of American author Nella Larsen’s 1929 novel. Set in New York City during the Roaring ’20s\, Passing follows Irene (Tessa Thompson\, Westworld) and Clare (Ruth Negga\, Loving)\, two mixed-race childhood friends who reunite in middle class adulthood and become increasingly involved in each other’s lives and insecurities. While Irene identifies as African-American and is married to a black Harlem doctor (Andre Holland\, Moonlight)\, Clare “passes” as white and has married a prejudiced\, wealthy white man (Alexander Skarsgard\, True Blood). Their renewed acquaintance ignites a mutual obsession that threatens both of their carefully constructed realities. Passing debuted at the 2021 Sundance Film Festival.  [2021\, UK/US\, 98 min\, Rated: PG-13] \nPeter Travers of ABC News pens\, “Starring Tessa Thompson and Ruth Negga in two of the year’s best performances\, this mesmerizing film about race\, class\, and gender identity in the 1920s speaks urgently to right now and marks a brilliant directing debut for Rebecca Hall.”  Christy Lemire of Film Week says\, “A beautiful film. It’s achingly sad\, delicate\, and gorgeous.” \nLocation: Cinema Art Theater \nAdmission \n\n$8.00 RBFS Members\n$11.00 General\n\nClick on the desired screening times for tickets \n\n\n\n\nFri\nNov 05\n3:30 PM\n   Cinema Art Theater\n\n\n\nSat\nNov 06\n6:30 PM\n   Cinema Art Theater\n\n\n\nSun\nNov 07\n3:15 PM\n   Cinema Art Theater\n\n\n\nWed\nNov 10\n6:30 PM\n   Cinema Art Theater\n\n\n\nThu\nNov 11\n3:30 PM\n   Cinema Art Theater\n\n\n\n\n  \n

SUMMARY:Mass at Cinema Art Theater
DESCRIPTION:View Screenings \n \n  \n\nStarts Friday\, November 5 \nMass is a powerful drama that explores the aftermath of a violent tragedy and how it affects the lives of two couples in different ways. \nYears after an unspeakable school shooting that tore their lives apart\, two sets of parents (Jason Isaacs and Martha Plimpton\, Reed Birney and Ann Dowd of Handmaiden’s Tale) agree to talk privately in an attempt to move forward. In this emotionally powerful film\, first-time writer/director Fran Kranz thoughtfully examines their journey of grief\, anger\, and acceptance by coming face to face with the ones who have been left behind. [2021\, UK/US\, 111 min\, Rated: PG-13] \nRex Reed of the Observer says\, “A film of rare ideas and smashing performances.” Katie Walsh of the Tribune News Service writes\, “Mass doesn’t impose any meaning\, it simply observes the searching for it\, and the infinitesimally small salvations we can hope to find in the process.” \n\nLocation: Cinema Art Theater \nAdmission \n\n$8.00 RBFS Members\n$11.00 General\n\nClick on the desired screening times for tickets \n\n\n\n\nFri\nNov 05\n2:30 PM\n   Cinema Art Theater\n\n\nSat\nNov 06\n5:30 PM\n   Cinema Art Theater\n\n\nSun\nNov 07\n2:00 PM\n   Cinema Art Theater\n\n\nMon\nNov 08\n2:00 PM\n   Cinema Art Theater\n\n\nWed\nNov 10\n2:30 PM\n   Cinema Art Theater\n\n\nWed\nNov 10\n5:30 PM\n   Cinema Art Theater\n\n\nThu\nNov 11\n2:30 PM\n   Cinema Art Theater

SUMMARY:Only the Animals at Cinema Art Theater
DESCRIPTION:View Screenings \nOnly the Animals\, a riveting mystery drama that is told from the points of view of five principal characters. \nFollowing the disappearance of glamourous housewife Evelyne Ducat (Valeria Bruni Tedeschi)\, the lives of five people inextricably linked to her are brought together to devastating effect as the local police investigate the case. Elegantly structured and darkly funny\, this audacious thriller reveals the secret connections of a lonely farmer\, an unfaithful husband and wife\, a lovelorn waitress\, and an African con artist to expose a world of greed\, lust\, betrayal\, desperation\, and murder spanning the wintry French highlands to the sun-kissed streets of Sierra Leone. With an outstanding cast\, including an astonishing performance by Denis Menochet (Inglorious Basterds)\, Only The Animals finds director Dominik Moll at the height of his filmmaking powers as he masterfully exposes the secret connections that lie at the heart of this mystery. Winner of Best International Film at the 2021 Munich Film Festival. [2019\, France/Germany\, 116 min\, Rated: NR\, in French with English subtitles] \nAvi Offer of NYC Movie Guru writes\, “A spellbinding\, intelligent and emotionally engrossing crime thriller with Hitchcockian suspense.” Peter Bradshaw of the Guardian says\, “The film’s constituent parts… interlock like the workings of an intricate and malign musical box\, creating dashes of melodrama\, erotic obsession and even soap opera\, and all superbly performed.” \n  \nLocation: Cinema Art Theater \nAdmission \n\n$8.00 RBFS Members\n$11.00 General\n\nClick on the desired screening times for tickets \n\n\n\n\nWed\nNov 03\n5:30 PM\n   Cinema Art Theater\n\n\n\nThu\nNov 04\n2:30 PM\n   Cinema Art Theater\n\n\n\nFri\nNov 05\n5:30 PM\n   Cinema Art Theater\n\n\n\nSat\nNov 06\n2:30 PM\n   Cinema Art Theater\n\n\n\nThu\nNov 11\n5:30 PM\n   Cinema Art Theater

SUMMARY:Ars Shakespearica: The Art of Shakespeare in Romeo and Juliet (The Lewes Library Performance Series)
DESCRIPTION:Ars Shakespearica: The Art of Shakespeare in Romeo and Juliet: Monday\, November 8 | 6:00 PM Eastern Time | In-person  \nSure to be one of the most sought after reservations\, this unique performance by Tony Award actor Donald Hicken goes a step further. The audience gets to join in on the reading! This event is a collaboration between the library and the Classic Theatre of Maryland.  \n“In partnership with The Lewes Public Library Spoken Word Society and Shakespeare Festival and the Classic Theatre of Maryland (CTM) join the Tony-Award nominated\, Helen-Hayes Award-winning Donald Hicken as he leads participants through an immersive\, interactive play-read of William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. This experience includes unified discussions\, textual analysis\, and live demonstrations by CTM’s starring performers\, Joshua Olumide (SAGe\, EMC)\, and Kira Janine. The team will be supported by CTM’s Founder and Producing Artistic Director Sally Boyett and Director of Education Matt Tucker (MDiv\, ORDM).\nDonald Hicken brings fifty years of professional theatrical experience and conservatory training with him\, formerly served as the Department Head of Theatre at The Baltimore School for the Arts from its founding in 1979 to his retirement in 2016\, and now serves as Chairman of the Board for CTM. The mission of the Classic Theatre of Maryland is to produce bold\, re-imagined\, entertaining and accessible interpretations of classical works\, contemporary plays\, and musicals with a core commitment to the works of Shakespeare and other major dramatists. CTM is committed to promoting the highest level of artistic excellence\, to cultivating the widest possible audience\, and to contributing to the economic and cultural growth of our community\, state\, and region. “-https://lewes.lib.de.us/2021/06/24/spoken-word-society-and-shakespeare-festival/\n \n  \nThe list of events and resources available at the Lewes Public Library astounds! Lectures\, workshops\, author presentations and performances. Children’s programming\, book clubs – and even a financial education series. The library’s calendar is almost overwhelming.  \nHere\, we focus on the Lewes Library’s Performance Series\, the Spoken Word Society and Shakespeare Festival. Don’t let the Shakespeare reference fool you – it’s symbolic for the most part\, although there are some events that involve Shakespeare readings and performances. As for the spoken word\, literary works are performed and discussed\, bringing stories to life.  \nThese events are free\, but reservations are required for certain programs\, so it’s wise to do a little browsing on the library’s web site to be sure.  \nOTHER UPCOMING PERFORMANCES for the remainder of 2021 include the following. \nTruman Capote’s “A Thanksgiving Visitor”: Friday\, November 19 | 7:00 PM Eastern Time | In-person  \nPopular storytelling duo Suzanne Savoy and Jack Herholdt perform a rendition of Capote’s heartwarming coming of age story. Scholars believe this story\, and its companion (see below)\, is as autobiographical as Capote ever was. To pre-read both of these short stories in one book\, the library\, as well as Browseabout Books carries this gift-worthy book.  \nTruman Capote’s “A Christmas Memory”: Saturday\, November 20 | 7:00 PM Eastern Time | In-person  \nBack to back performance of Capote’s seasonal favorite that continues to explore his storytelling from the eyes of seven-year-old Buddy. This Christmas story reenactment event will be repeated closer to the holiday on Friday\, December 17th at 7 PM.  \nCharles Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol”: Friday\, December 10 | 7:00 PM Eastern Time | In-person  \nDon’t miss the chance to see the performance by Gerald Dickens\, the great great grandson of Charles Dickens. Captivating audiences all over the world with his talents\, and performing in major venues\, actor\, writer and producer Gerald Dickens will act out a rendition of A Christmas Carol as 30 different characters!  \nMake those reservations and don’t miss out on Lewes Library’s unique and exceptional offerings to the public. As you can see\, libraries are not just about books!  \n

SUMMARY:"Becoming Cousteau" at Cinema Art Theater
