SUMMARY:Revolutionary Lewes Walking Tour
DESCRIPTION:Delawareans of all sorts were forced to come to terms with their changing world. Loyalties\, ideals\, and even family bonds were tested; lives and livelihoods were threatened; and independence was on the horizon. \nSitting prominently at the mouth of Delaware Bay\, Lewes was a lynchpin in the defenses of America’s most vital waterway\, just 89 nautical miles from Philadelphia\, where whispers of independence were beginning to take hold. \nVisit the Historic Shipcarpenter Street Campus (110 Shipcarpenter St.)\, home to nine historic structures\, relocated from all over Sussex County. \nSee the Sussex Tavern a 1770s-inspired local gathering place along with the Lewistown Coffeehouse. Friday\, 6pm and Saturday\, 2pm \nTour begins at the Ryves Holt House Museum & Mercantile (218 2nd St.) \nAdmission: $15 per person\, $5 for children 12 and under. \nALL INFO AND PICS FROM THE LEWES HISTORICAL SOCIETY WEBSITE

SUMMARY:Help with Village Volunteers!!
DESCRIPTION:Share your time\, your skills\, your way.\n  \nIf our members are the Village’s heart\, our volunteers are the Village’s soul.\nThose volunteers give selflessly of their time\, their talents\, and their compassion in order to serve their neighbors and nurture a vibrant community of support for older adults in Sussex County\, Delaware. \n  \nOur volunteers are also incredibly loyal. Many are members themselves. Many have been with the Village since it began operations in 2013. And part of that loyalty is due to the fact that the Village encourages volunteers to choose the services they enjoy and their availability schedule. \nAnd volunteering has its own rewards! In a survey by the United Health Group: \n\n96% of volunteers say their efforts give them a richer sense of purpose in life.\n95% say volunteering makes their community a better place.\n94% say it improves their mood\, and 78% say it lowers their stress levels.\n\nOurs is a proactive\, data-based approach that balances supply and demand through sophisticated demographic mapping. Members can count on volunteers who are reliable neighbors. And volunteers can count on service requests that reflect their own schedules and interests. \nLearn about volunteer opportunities \nAll info and more at the website: https://villagevolunteer.org/content.aspx?page_id=22&club_id=492141&module_id=148131
