In just over a century\, massive economic and social changes moved millions of Americans into urban areas. Yet\, only 10% of the U.S. landmass is considered urban. \nMany Americans consider rural communities to be endangered and hanging on by a thread—suffering from brain drain\, inadequate schools\, and a barren\, overused landscape. Why should revitalizing the rural places left behind matter to those who remain\, those who left\, and those who will come in the future? Because there is much more to the story of rural America. \nCrossroads: Change in Rural America offers small towns a chance to look at their own paths to highlight the changes that affected their fortunes over the past century. The exhibition will prompt discussions about what happened when America’s rural population became a minority of the country’s population and the ripple effects that occurred. \nDespite the massive economic and demographic impacts brought on by these changes\, America’s small towns continue to creatively focus on new opportunities for growth and development. SUMMARY:Coastal Concerts presents Amy Yang
DESCRIPTION:A “jaw-dropping pianist who steals the show…with effortless finesse” (Washington Post)\, Amy Yang balances an active career as soloist\, chamber musician and pedagogue. In 2020\, she shared the stage with Anne-Marie McDermott\, Yefim Bronfman\, Paul Neubauer\, and the Dover Quartet in a myriad of performances at Bravo! Vail. Additionally\, she gave her solo debut as well as joined forces with the Jasper String Quartet in piano quintets by Tania Léon and Joan Tower for Philadelphia Chamber Music Society’s 35th season. She was also featured in a full episode with Emmy® Award-winning producer Jim Cotter of Articulate\, aired on PBS in 2021. 2021 also brought about appearances with violinist Tessa Lark at Wigmore Hall\, Gardner Museum\, Cal Performances\, Rockport Music Festival\, and International Violin Competition of Indianapolis Series. Her upcoming appearances will be at Hawaii Concert Society\, Chameleon Arts Ensemble of Boston\, The Seattle Series\, Music at Pine Street\, Coastal Concerts (DE)\, with violist Roberto Díaz and oboist Philippe Tondre for Philadelphia Chamber Music Society\, and playing with violinists Danbi Um and Paul Huang at Santa Fe Music Festival\, Cleveland Chamber Music Society\, and Chamber Music San Francisco. \nAt the Curtis Institute of Music\, she is the Associate Dean of Piano Studies and Artistic Initiatives. She will make her debut playing Schumann’s Piano Concerto with the Curtis Symphony Orchestra under Osmo Vänskä at Verizon Hall at the Kimmel Center in April\, 2023. \nCollaborating with leading musicians\, Ms. Yang toured with Patricia Kopatchinskaya\, Tito Muñoz and the Mahler Chamber Orchestra\, and premiered music by Michael Hersch at Cal Performances\, Ojai Music Festival and Aldeburgh Festival. Additional collaborations include performances with Richard Goode\, Anne-Marie McDermott\, Ida and Ani Kavafian\, Miriam Fried\, Bomsori Kim\, Roberto Díaz\, Kim Kashkashian\, Tessa Lark\, Paul Neubauer\, Tara Helen O’Conor\, Joseph Silverstein\, members of Guarneri String Quartet\, the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra\, Dover Quartet\, Aizuri String Quartet\, Jasper String Quartet and A Far Cry. DESCRIPTION:NEW 2022 Location!\nOn behalf of Cancer Support Community Delaware\, we want to thank you for those who attended The Pink Affair in 2021 and coming out despite the rainy weather! We hope you had as good a time as we did\, and enjoyed your friends\, boutique\, auction\, raffles\, and luncheon. \nAgain\, we are so appreciative for your support! Proceeds from the Pink Affair help directly fund critical programming\, all at no cost\, for participants\, caregivers and families impacted by cancer in Sussex County. \nSAVE THE DATE! We are excited to announce the return of one of our most popular events in 2022\, which always sells out. This year the Pink Affair will be held on Friday\, October 21\, 2022. This year we are switching venues to host our luncheon and boutique at the well-known Lewes Yacht Club. DESCRIPTION:EXHIBIT at Oceanview DE \nFREE TO THE PUBLIC \nOpen Weekends\, Sept. 10 – Nov. 12th \nFridays\, 6-8pm \nSaturdays\, 10am-4pm \nSundays 1-4pm \n(Parking available at 32 West Ave. or on Oakwood Ave. No entrance off Central Ave.) \n“In 1900\, about 40% of Americans lived in rural areas\, By 2010\, less than 18% of the U.S. population lived in rural areas. In just over a century\, massive economic and social changes moved millions of Americans into urban areas. Yet\, only 10% of the U.S. landmass is considered urban. \nMany Americans consider rural communities to be endangered and hanging on by a thread—suffering from brain drain\, inadequate schools\, and a barren\, overused landscape. Why should revitalizing the rural places left behind matter to those who remain\, those who left\, and those who will come in the future? Because there is much more to the story of rural America. \nCrossroads: Change in Rural America offers small towns a chance to look at their own paths to highlight the changes that affected their fortunes over the past century. The exhibition will prompt discussions about what happened when America’s rural population became a minority of the country’s population and the ripple effects that occurred. \nDespite the massive economic and demographic impacts brought on by these changes\, America’s small towns continue to creatively focus on new opportunities for growth and development. Economic innovation and a focus on the cultural facets that make small towns unique\, comfortable\, and desirable have helped many communities create their own renaissance.
