SUBMITTED PHOTOS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMay 2\, 2021\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis summer\, the Delaware River and Bay Lighthouse Foundation will offer two sunset cruises for the public; cost is $35 per person. The monies raised by ticket sales will support the ongoing restoration of the Harbor of Refuge Lighthouse. \nTours will take place from 7 to 9 p.m.\, Saturday\, June 5\, and 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.\, Saturday\, Sept. 11. Participants are required to be at the dock for check-in a half-hour before departure time. Cruises leave from Anglers Fishing Center\, 213 Anglers Road\, Lewes\, where there is plenty of free parking. Passengers are invited to bring their own beverages and snacks for the outing. \nCruises travel up the Lewes-Rehoboth Canal\, through Roosevelt Inlet and into Delaware Bay to view both the Delaware Breakwater East End Light and the Harbor of Refuge Light\, which mark the entrance to Delaware Bay and the National Harbor of Refuge. Photo opportunities include not only the lighthouses at sunset\, but often pods of dolphins and other sea creatures. \nAlso this year\, the foundation will offer on-site tours of the Harbor of Refuge Light at 9 and 10:15 a.m.\, Saturday\, July 24; 8:30 and 9:45 a.m.\, Saturday\, Aug. 21; and 11 a.m. and 12:15 p.m.\, Saturday\, Sept. 25. These outings include a visit to and tour of the working space of the Harbor of Refuge Light\, plus a close-up water view of the Breakwater East End Light and plenty of photo ops at both lighthouses. Tours are $80 per person. The event dates (April 1-17) span three weekends. \nThe locations of the plantings will be identified on the map produced in association with the celebration. More than 100 varieties will be on display. \nTiptoe To The Tulips Map: The event organizers created the Tiptoe To The Tulips Map that will be available in late March at the Lewes Chamber of Commerce’s Visitor Center located in the historic Fisher-Martin House in Zwaanendael Park. The visitor center is open Monday – Friday\, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.  Copies of the map will be available at brochure boxes throughout the historic commercial district. The map lists more than 20 locations where the bulbs were planted. It also has a schedule of activities associated with the Tulip Celebration. \nTulip Sale: On April 15 & 16 Lewes in Bloom will be selling tulips at the Bank Street Plaza on Second Street from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. \nHistory in Bloom Walking Tours: The Lewes Historical Society and Lewes in Bloom are partnering to offer walking tours on Saturday\, April 2nd and Saturday\, April 9th at 10:30 a.m.\, 12:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m.  The tours will be led by a historic guide and will provide information on Lewes’ rich maritime history.  A knowledgeable guide from Lewes in Bloom will be on the tour to point out the multiple tulip varieties found around Lewes.  The tours begin at the Cannonball House’s back garden\, behind 118 Front Street. The tour cost is $10 for adults and $5 for children 12 and under. The broad-based committee\, chaired by event founder Lewes Mayor Ted Becker\, includes Lewes in Bloom co-chairs and founder\, a representative from City of Lewes Parks and Recreation Commission and the Zwaanendael Museum. This year Lewes in Bloom funded the purchase of 26\,931 tulip and 3\,950 spring bulbs that were planted in fall 2021 by members of Lewes in Bloom.\nThe timing of the tulips’ appearance is an inexact science and either milder or colder weather in advance of the event dates can increase the probability that the dates of the celebration may not exactly coincide with the tulips blooming! The event dates (April 1-17) span three weekends. \nThe locations of the plantings will be identified on the map produced in association with the celebration. More than 100 varieties will be on display. \nTiptoe To The Tulips Map: The event organizers created the Tiptoe To The Tulips Map that will be available in late March at the Lewes Chamber of Commerce’s Visitor Center located in the historic Fisher-Martin House in Zwaanendael Park. The visitor center is open Monday – Friday\, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.  Copies of the map will be available at brochure boxes throughout the historic commercial district. The map lists more than 20 locations where the bulbs were planted. It also has a schedule of activities associated with the Tulip Celebration. \nTulip Sale: On April 15 & 16 Lewes in Bloom will be selling tulips at the Bank Street Plaza on Second Street from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. \nHistory in Bloom Walking Tours: The Lewes Historical Society and Lewes in Bloom are partnering to offer walking tours on Saturday\, April 2nd and Saturday\, April 9th at 10:30 a.m.\, 12:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m.  The tours will be led by a historic guide and will provide information on Lewes’ rich maritime history.  A knowledgeable guide from Lewes in Bloom will be on the tour to point out the multiple tulip varieties found around Lewes.  The tours begin at the Cannonball House’s back garden\, behind 118 Front Street. The tour cost is $10 for adults and $5 for children 12 and under. Purchase tickets at www.historiclewes.org/visit/tours/html. \nFloral demonstrations and tulip sales: Ken Norman\, owner/designer at Floral Inspirations\, located on the beach side of the canal at 524 E. Savannah Road\, in the shops under the Beacon Motel\, will be hosting demonstrations on Friday and Saturday\, April 8th &  9th and 15th & 16th from 1 – 3 p.m.  Owner/designer Mayumi Williamson of Flowers by Mayumi\, located in the historic business district at 128 Second Street\, will be hosting a drop-in floral arranging demonstration on April 8 from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m.\nSpring Geranium Sale: Benefits the GFWC Zwaanendael Women’s Club’s Community Service Programs. They are taking orders until April 15 with pick up on Saturday\, April 30 at Lewes in Bloom’s Warehouse at 217 Schley Avenue\, Lewes. $7 per 6” pot – pink\, white\, red and salmon. Over the course of twenty studio albums\, Earle has distinguished himself as a master storyteller\, and his songs have been recorded by a vast array of artists\, including Johnny Cash\, Waylon Jennings\, Joan Baez\, Emmylou Harris\, the Pretenders\, and more. Earle’s 1986 debut album\, ​Guitar Town​ \, is now regarded as a classic of the Americana genre\, and subsequent releases like ​The Revolution Starts…Now (2004)\, ​Washington Square Serenade (2007)\, and ​TOWNES (2009) all received Grammy Awards. Restlessly creative across artistic disciplines\, Earle has published both a novel and a collection of short stories; produced albums for other artists; and acted in films\, TV shows and on stage. In 2019\, Earle appeared in the off-Broadway play ​Samara​ \, for which he also wrote a score that ​The New York Times described as “exquisitely subliminal.” Each year\, Earle organizes a benefit concert for the Keswell School\, which his son John Henry attends and which provides educational programs for children and young adults with autism. \nAbout Los Lobos The journey of Los Lobos began in 1973\, when David Hidalgo (vocals\, guitar\, and pretty much anything with strings)\, Louie Perez (drums\, vocals\, guitar)\, Cesar Rosas (vocals\, guitar)\, and Conrad Lozano (bass\, vocals\, guitarrón) earned their stripes playing revved-up versions of Mexican folk music in restaurants and at parties. The band evolved in the 1980s as it tapped into L.A.’s burgeoning punk and college rock scenes. They were soon sharing bills with bands like the Circle Jerks\, Public Image Ltd. and the Blasters\, whose saxophonist\, Steve Berlin\, would eventually leave the group to join Los Lobos in 1984. \nEarly on\, Los Lobos enjoyed critical success\, winning the Grammy® for Best Mexican-American Performance for “Anselma” from its 1983 EP …And a Time to Dance. A year later\, the group released its full-length\, major-label debut\, How Will the Wolf Survive? Co-produced by Berlin and T Bone Burnett\, the album was a college rock sensation that helped Los Lobos tie with Bruce Springsteen as Rolling Stone’s Artist of the Year. \nA major turning point came in 1987 with the release of the Ritchie Valens biopic\, La Bamba. The quintet’s cover of Valens’ signature song topped the charts in the U.S. and the U.K. Rather than capitalize on that massive commercial success\, Los Lobos instead chose to record La Pistola y El Corazón\, a tribute to Tejano and Mariachi music that won the 1989 Grammy® for Best Mexican-American Performance. \nThat kind of sharp artistic turn has become Los Lobos’ trademark\, serving to both fuel the band’s creativity and keep its fans engaged.
