This year Lewes in Bloom funded the purchase of 26\,931 tulip and 3\,950 spring bulbs that were planted in fall 2021 by members of Lewes in Bloom.\nThe timing of the tulips’ appearance is an inexact science and either milder or colder weather in advance of the event dates can increase the probability that the dates of the celebration may not exactly coincide with the tulips blooming! The event dates (April 1-17) span three weekends. \nThe locations of the plantings will be identified on the map produced in association with the celebration. More than 100 varieties will be on display. \nTiptoe To The Tulips Map: The event organizers created the Tiptoe To The Tulips Map that will be available in late March at the Lewes Chamber of Commerce’s Visitor Center located in the historic Fisher-Martin House in Zwaanendael Park. View all upcoming concerts and shows.\n\n\n\n \n\n\nPUBLIC ON-SALE NO LATER THAN MID-JUNE!\nMelissa Etheridge stormed onto the American rock scene in 1988 with the release of her critically acclaimed self-titled debut album\, which led to an appearance on the 1989 Grammy Awards show. For several years\, her popularity grew around such memorable originals as “Bring Me Some Water\,” “No Souvenirs” and “Ain’t It Heavy\,” for which she won a Grammy Award in 1992. \nEtheridge hit her commercial and artistic stride with her fourth album\, Yes I Am (1993). The collection featured the massive hits\, “I’m the Only One” and “Come to My Window\,” a searing song of longing that brought Etheridge her second Grammy Award for Best Female Rock Performance. In 1995\, Etheridge issued her highest charting album\, Your Little Secret\, which was distinguished by the hit single\, “I Want to Come Over.” Her astounding success that year led to Etheridge receiving the Songwriter of the Year honor at the ASCAP Pop Awards in 1996. \nKnown for her confessional lyrics and raspy\, smoky vocals\, Etheridge has remained one of America’s favorite female singer-songwriters for more than two decades. In February 2007\, Melissa Etheridge celebrated a career milestone with a victory in the “Best Song” category at the Academy Awards for “I Need to Wake Up\,” written for the Al Gore documentary on global warming\, “An Inconvenient Truth.” As a performer and songwriter\, Etheridge has shown herself to be an artist who has never allowed “inconvenient truths” to keep her down. Earlier in her recording career\, Etheridge acknowledged her sexual orientation when it was considered less than prudent to do so. \nIn October 2004\, Etheridge was diagnosed with breast cancer\, a health battle that\, with her typical tenacity\, she won. Despite losing her hair from chemotherapy\, Etheridge appeared on the 2005 Grammy’s telecast to sing “Piece of My Heart” in tribute to Janis Joplin. By doing so she gave hope to many women afflicted with the disease. \nOn Oct. 7\, 2016 Melissa Etheridge released Memphis Rock & Soul\, her first album since 2014’s critically lauded “This Is M.E.” Recorded at Royal Studios in Memphis\, the album received stellar reviews from the likes of Entertainment Weekly\, Parade\, Rolling Stone\, American Songwriter and more. She followed that up with the release of “The Medicine Show” in April 2019. This year Lewes in Bloom funded the purchase of 26\,931 tulip and 3\,950 spring bulbs that were planted in fall 2021 by members of Lewes in Bloom.\nThe timing of the tulips’ appearance is an inexact science and either milder or colder weather in advance of the event dates can increase the probability that the dates of the celebration may not exactly coincide with the tulips blooming! The event dates (April 1-17) span three weekends. \nThe locations of the plantings will be identified on the map produced in association with the celebration. More than 100 varieties will be on display. \nTiptoe To The Tulips Map: The event organizers created the Tiptoe To The Tulips Map that will be available in late March at the Lewes Chamber of Commerce’s Visitor Center located in the historic Fisher-Martin House in Zwaanendael Park. The visitor center is open Monday – Friday\, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.  Copies of the map will be available at brochure boxes throughout the historic commercial district. The map lists more than 20 locations where the bulbs were planted. It also has a schedule of activities associated with the Tulip Celebration. \nTulip Sale: On April 15 & 16 Lewes in Bloom will be selling tulips at the Bank Street Plaza on Second Street from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. \nHistory in Bloom Walking Tours: The Lewes Historical Society and Lewes in Bloom are partnering to offer walking tours on Saturday\, April 2nd and Saturday\, April 9th at 10:30 a.m.\, 12:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m.  The tours will be led by a historic guide and will provide information on Lewes’ rich maritime history.  A knowledgeable guide from Lewes in Bloom will be on the tour to point out the multiple tulip varieties found around Lewes.  The tours begin at the Cannonball House’s back garden\, behind 118 Front Street. Over the course of twenty studio albums\, Earle has distinguished himself as a master storyteller\, and his songs have been recorded by a vast array of artists\, including Johnny Cash\, Waylon Jennings\, Joan Baez\, Emmylou Harris\, the Pretenders\, and more. Earle’s 1986 debut album\, ​Guitar Town​ \, is now regarded as a classic of the Americana genre\, and subsequent releases like ​The Revolution Starts…Now (2004)\, ​Washington Square Serenade (2007)\, and ​TOWNES (2009) all received Grammy Awards. Restlessly creative across artistic disciplines\, Earle has published both a novel and a collection of short stories; produced albums for other artists; and acted in films\, TV shows and on stage. The broad-based committee\, chaired by event founder Lewes Mayor Ted Becker\, includes Lewes in Bloom co-chairs and founder\, a representative from City of Lewes Parks and Recreation Commission and the Zwaanendael Museum. This year Lewes in Bloom funded the purchase of 26\,931 tulip and 3\,950 spring bulbs that were planted in fall 2021 by members of Lewes in Bloom.\nThe timing of the tulips’ appearance is an inexact science and either milder or colder weather in advance of the event dates can increase the probability that the dates of the celebration may not exactly coincide with the tulips blooming! The event dates (April 1-17) span three weekends. \nThe locations of the plantings will be identified on the map produced in association with the celebration. More than 100 varieties will be on display. \nTiptoe To The Tulips Map: The event organizers created the Tiptoe To The Tulips Map that will be available in late March at the Lewes Chamber of Commerce’s Visitor Center located in the historic Fisher-Martin House in Zwaanendael Park. The visitor center is open Monday – Friday\, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.  Copies of the map will be available at brochure boxes throughout the historic commercial district. The map lists more than 20 locations where the bulbs were planted. It also has a schedule of activities associated with the Tulip Celebration. \nTulip Sale: On April 15 & 16 Lewes in Bloom will be selling tulips at the Bank Street Plaza on Second Street from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. \nHistory in Bloom Walking Tours: The Lewes Historical Society and Lewes in Bloom are partnering to offer walking tours on Saturday\, April 2nd and Saturday\, April 9th at 10:30 a.m.\, 12:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m.  The tours will be led by a historic guide and will provide information on Lewes’ rich maritime history.  A knowledgeable guide from Lewes in Bloom will be on the tour to point out the multiple tulip varieties found around Lewes.  The tours begin at the Cannonball House’s back garden\, behind 118 Front Street. The tour cost is $10 for adults and $5 for children 12 and under. Savannah Road\, in the shops under the Beacon Motel\, will be hosting demonstrations on Friday and Saturday\, April 8th &  9th and 15th & 16th from 1 – 3 p.m.  Owner/designer Mayumi Williamson of Flowers by Mayumi\, located in the historic business district at 128 Second Street\, will be hosting a drop-in floral arranging demonstration on April 8 from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m.\nSpring Geranium Sale: Benefits the GFWC Zwaanendael Women’s Club’s Community Service Programs. They are taking orders until April 15 with pick up on Saturday\, April 30 at Lewes in Bloom’s Warehouse at 217 Schley Avenue\, Lewes. $7 per 6” pot – pink\, white\, red and salmon.
