SUMMARY:Day in Old New Castle
DESCRIPTION:  \n\nThis year’s theme is the Stories Ignited: 1824 Great Fire of New Castle.  As a result of the fire most of the homes on The Strand were destroyed\, with the Gunning Bedford House and the Read House surviving\, but that is not all that survives.  The townspeople worked together as well as received support from all over our young nation\, even as far away as Boston.  The community was rebuilt to preserve our gorgeous brick architecture\, creating one of the most beautiful Federal Streets in Old New Castle.  To commemorate the 100th year Good Will Fire Company and other fire companies will be hosting antique fire engines and equipment\, plus homes and gardens with their stories before\, after\, and during the event. This is a family event\, with many of the activities free of charge. \n\n\n  \n\n\nIf you purchase a ticket you receive: \n\n\nKalmar Nyckel docked at Wharf and offering ship tours.  Included in the ticket price\nHistoric houses and gardens open for tour\nMuseums and church tours\n$1 off ticket price if you dress in Colonial or Victorian period clothing\n\n\n  \n\n\nThroughout town and free of charge: \n\n\nChildren’s activities on the Green and Wharf\nPlein Air Art Competition and Sale on the Green\nNative American foodways demonstration\nCostumed reenactors throughout the town\nTented seating and food trucks at the Wharf

SUMMARY:6th Annual DQ Dash
DESCRIPTION:During the Summer of 2017 a public-private collaboration of business owners\, Lewes citizens\, and representatives of the City of Lewes decided to form an organization to bring official fireworks back to the city of Lewes. We believe that safe and legal fireworks along our beach is the perfect ending to the Lewes’ Old Fashioned Fourth of July festivities\, which include games on Second Street\, a boat parade on the canal\, and the Lewes Doo Dah Parade. Fireworks on the beach are a perfect way to end this family-friendly day. Go Fourth! was formed to bring this to fruition.\nGo Fourth! \nGo Fourth! is jointly managed by the Go Fourth! committee of volunteers\, the Lewes Chamber of Commerce\, and the City of Lewes. The Go Fourth! Fund donations are tax-deductible.\nFundraising \nAll info and pics from the website

SUMMARY:Help with Village Volunteers!!
DESCRIPTION:Share your time\, your skills\, your way.\n  \nIf our members are the Village’s heart\, our volunteers are the Village’s soul.\nThose volunteers give selflessly of their time\, their talents\, and their compassion in order to serve their neighbors and nurture a vibrant community of support for older adults in Sussex County\, Delaware. \n  \nOur volunteers are also incredibly loyal. Many are members themselves. Many have been with the Village since it began operations in 2013. And part of that loyalty is due to the fact that the Village encourages volunteers to choose the services they enjoy and their availability schedule. \nAnd volunteering has its own rewards! In a survey by the United Health Group: \n\n96% of volunteers say their efforts give them a richer sense of purpose in life.\n95% say volunteering makes their community a better place.\n94% say it improves their mood\, and 78% say it lowers their stress levels.\n\nOurs is a proactive\, data-based approach that balances supply and demand through sophisticated demographic mapping. Members can count on volunteers who are reliable neighbors. And volunteers can count on service requests that reflect their own schedules and interests. \nLearn about volunteer opportunities \nAll info and more at the website: https://villagevolunteer.org/content.aspx?page_id=22&club_id=492141&module_id=148131
