SUMMARY:"MARY CASSATT: PAINTING THE MODERN WOMAN" Journey in Art History
DESCRIPTION:The Rehoboth Beach Film Society is pleased to present the 2023 Journey in Art History Exhibition on Screen™ (EOS) film series. EOS is the originator and pioneer of bringing exhibition-based art films to the cinema. Working with top international museums and galleries\, EOS creates films which offer a cinematic immersion into the world’s best loved art\, accompanied by insights from the world’s leading historians and arts critics. The three-part series will begin in January with brand new films each month through March. The focus of the Journey in Art series is to introduce the works of history’s greatest painters and to provide opportunities to view blockbuster art exhibitions from galleries worldwide. \nMARY CASSATT: PAINTING THE MODERN WOMAN\nView Screenings \n \n  \nMary Cassatt made a career painting the lives of the women around her. Her radical images showed them as intellectual\, feminine and real\, which was a major shift in the way women appeared in art\, during the mid-to late-1800s. Presenting her astonishing prints\, pastels and paintings\, this film introduces us to the often- overlooked Impressionist whose own career was as full of contradiction as the women she painted. Originally from Pennsylvania\, she lived most of her adult life in France. Mary printed\, sketched\, and painted dozens of images of mothers and children yet she never married or had children herself. She was a classically trained artist but chose to join a group of Parisian radicals – the Impressionists – a movement that transformed the language of art. The world’s most eminent\, Cassatt curators and scholars help tell this riveting tale of great social and cultural change; a time when women were fighting for their rights and the language of art was completely re-written. Mary Cassatt and her modern women were at the heart of it all. [2021\, US\, Runtime: 93 min\, Not Rated] \n  \nLocation: Cinema Art Theater (CAT) in Lewes \nAdmission \n\n$9.00 RBFS Members\n$11.50 General\n\nClick on the desired screening times for tickets \n\n\n\n\nMon\nMar 13\n2:00 PM\n   CAT – Main Theater\n\n\n\nTue\nMar 21\n6:00 PM\n   CAT – Main Theater

SUMMARY:Live Music at the Georgetown Library
DESCRIPTION:The Georgetown Public Library hosts “Live Music at the Library” at 2 pm the third Sunday of most months of the year; the concerts are free and open to the public\, and no longer require registration. Seating is limited to 200 attendees. \nCarol Montag \nCarol first began singing and performing music at an early age at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Ames Iowa. In addition to piano lessons\, Carol studied the flute in middle school and high school. While in high school\, she also learned to play her sister’s guitar by ear while listening to such folk music legends as Joni Mitchell\, Judy Collins\, Carole King\, John Denver\, and Joan Baez. She saved her money and in her senior year she purchased her first guitar\, a Yamaha 12-string\, and has been writing music ever since. In college\, Carol played in a folk band and majored in graphic design. After graduation\, she worked a few years at Rockwell International as a graphic designer. She eventually left that position to devote more time to music. \nCarol’s first paid gigs were at a Mexican restaurant in Cedar Rapids. Soon she began performing at colleges\, coffeehouses\, house concerts\, churches\, music festivals\, and live radio shows. She was a frequent guest on The Flea Market\, a live radio show hosted by folk music legend\, Jim Post\, out of Chicago’s Old Town School of Folk Music. In the 1990s\, Carol was commissioned by Ballet Iowa’s artistic director\, Kenneth Oberly\, to write songs for a ballet about a farm family in crisis. The work is titled “Swallows Return in the Spring.” Carol toured the midwest performing live with the ballet company. Carol was also commissioned to write and perform music for the LaCrosse Ballet. She has recorded four solo albums: Song for Carrie\, White\, Marigolds\, and Second Sermon (on her Monday’s Music record label) and two Christmas albums\, Silent Night and Simple Gifts\, with the trio known as Tribute (Carol\, Kathy Donnelly\, and Nina Swanson). Tribute has performed yearly Christmas concerts to sold out crowds in the Cedar Rapids area. While performing at a private party in Washington\, DC\, known as Iowa Days\, Carol was invited to sing at the 2010 World Food Prize Laureate Award Ceremony by World Food Prize president and former ambassador to Cambodia\, Kenneth Quinn. Past performers at the ceremony include such notables as John Denver\, Ray Charles\, and Simon Estes. \nFind out more about Carol at: \nhttps://www.carolmontag.com/\nFacebook\nYouTube \nCheck the Library Events Calendar for more information about each performance. \nThis performance is a gift of the Friends of the Georgetown Public Library.
