Spring in Lewes always brings something special, and the 2026 Lewes Tulip Celebration is one of the season’s most colorful traditions. From April 1 through April 19, visitors and locals can enjoy thousands of blooming tulips spread throughout town as Lewes once again celebrates its Dutch heritage in full color.
Now in its 17th year, the Lewes Tulip Celebration is jointly sponsored by the Lewes Chamber of Commerce and Lewes in Bloom. It has become a beloved annual event that draws people into the historic district to stroll, explore, and enjoy the beauty of spring.
A Town in Bloom
This year’s celebration will feature 31,000 tulips and 5,000 additional spring bulb plantings throughout Lewes. The blooms are spread across more than 20 locations, giving visitors plenty of reasons to slow down and take in the scenery.
Of course, tulip blooming depends heavily on the weather. Organizers note that warmer or colder temperatures leading up to the event may affect when the flowers appear, so peak blooms may not line up exactly with the scheduled celebration dates. That unpredictability is part of what makes the event feel so natural and unique each year.
Pick Up the Tiptoe To The Tulips Map
One of the best ways to experience the celebration is by using the Tiptoe To The Tulips Map. This map helps guide visitors to the many tulip planting locations around town and also includes a schedule of activities tied to the event.
The map will be available in late March at the Lewes Chamber of Commerce Visitor Center, located inside the historic Fisher-Martin House in Zwaanendael Park. The visitor center is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Copies of the map will also be available at brochure boxes throughout the historic commercial district.
Tulip Sale on April 18
A highlight of the celebration will be the tulip sale hosted by Lewes in Bloom on April 18. The sale will take place at Bank Street Plaza on Second Street from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., or until the tulips sell out.
For anyone hoping to bring home a piece of the celebration, this is a great chance to do it.
History in Bloom Walking Tours
The celebration also includes a special partnership between Historic Lewes and Lewes in Bloom for the History in Bloom Walking Tours on April 12. Tours will be offered at 10:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m., and 2:30 p.m.
These tours combine Lewes’ rich maritime history with the beauty of its seasonal tulip displays. A historic guide will share stories about the town, while a Lewes in Bloom guide points out the different tulip varieties planted throughout the area.
The tours begin at Historic Lewes’ main campus at 110 Shipcarpenter Street. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children 12 and under.
