Coastal Camera Club presents 2023 “Virtual” Photo Beach Bash
February 25, 2023 @ 3:00 pm
PRESS RELEASE, Jan. 17, 2023
LEWES, DE — Technology in phones and digital cameras has made photography more accessible and ubiquitous in our lives. But despite digital photography making it easier and faster to capture and share images, creativity and skill are still essential to producing memorable and effective photographs.
To help photographers of all skill levels and genres expand their creativity and hone their skills, the Coastal Camera Club of Lewes will present a free two-day on-line event to expose participants to world-class photographers and tap into their wisdom.
The February 25-26, “Virtual” Photo Beach Bash will feature exciting and informative presentations by renowned photographers Colleen Miniuk and Joe Edelman.
“Our club exists today to encourage and promote interest in photography through education and participation in activities and competitions. The Photo Beach Bash was started in 2013 as an in-person event to enable us to share the joy of photography beyond the club,” said club President Joanne Tramposch.
“We’ve had an excellent lineup of speakers for every Photo Beach Bash,” she said. “This year is no exception. We’re really excited about our presenters this year. Colleen Miniuk is a fabulous outdoor photographer who is going to talk about visualizing your photographs before you take them. And Joe Edleman, who holds the title of Photographic Craftsman, is going to talk about how to improve creativity in your photography,” Tramposch said.
This event is free of charge, but you must sign up in advance.
The schedule is as follows:
Saturday, Feb. 25 at 3 pm: Visualization: Picturing the Unique Possibilities with Colleen Miniuk
When a scene excites us, photographers often feel compelled to grab our cameras and shoot, shoot, shoot! Join Colleen Miniuk for an enlightening presentation on how visualizing your photograph before you begin photographing—whether at home or in the field—can help you record more effective and more meaningful images.
She’ll share what visualization is (and isn’t), and how visualization ties into the creative process. She will discuss how to approach landscapes with mindfulness, and how to translate your ideas into pixels without a camera in your hands. In picturing your picture before you create it, you’ll be on your way to deeper and more meaningful visual expressions.
Colleen Miniuk is a full-time freelance outdoor photographer, writer, publisher, instructor, and motivational speaker, supporting a wide range of assignments for editorial and commercial clients. Specializing in nature and outdoor recreation, her purpose as an outdoor communicator is to inspire and help others enjoy the Great Outdoors.
Based in Chandler, Arizona, she began making photographs of the Western landscapes in 2001. Her publication credits include National Geographic calendars, Arizona Highways, AAA VIA, On Landscape, National Parks Traveler, and a broad variety of other publications.
Sunday, Feb. 26 at 3 pm: Understanding Creativity to improve Your Photography with Joe Edelman
If we all have the potential to be creative, why is it so hard? In this fun and enlightening presentation, we will explore some science behind creativity. Where does it come from? Are humans born with it, or do they learn it? Is it possible to make yourself more creative?
The answers that are the results of research done by cognitive psychologists will surprise you, frustrate you, and excite you.
Armed with a better understanding of how creativity works, Joe will help us lay the foundation to be able to develop more creative skills and become a better, more creative photographer, with tips that will help you to see and think about your subjects in ways that you never have before.
Joe Edelman is an award-winning photographer, author, and photo educator. His educational mission: “To help photographers to develop a solid understanding of the HOWS and WHYS behind creating great photographs.” Joe is honored to hold the title of Photographic Craftsman, a designation given to those who have met the standards of excellence set by the Professional Photographers of America in recognition of service to the photographic profession as an orator, author, and mentor. “While we all are looking forward to returning to large, in-person indoor gatherings, the limitations imposed by the COVID pandemic actually have allowed us to offer this event to a broader audience by moving to a ‘virtual’ format,” said Tramposch. “Prior to the pandemic, the Photo Beach Bash was a one-day in-person learning experience at a local hotel. For the past two years, we felt it was best to hold the event virtually. A wonderful consequence is that we have reached more than 500 people each year from not just from across the coastal Delaware region, but from across the world.”
Additionally, the move to virtual sessions has enabled the club to attract presenters without regard to geographic limitations. Edelman will be presenting from Pennsylvania and Miniuk from Arizona.
