Tournament of Banned Book
October 4, 2023
Banned Books Week celebrates the freedom to read and spotlights current and historical attempts to censor books in libraries and schools. For more than 40 years, the annual event has brought together the entire book community — librarians, teachers, booksellers, publishers, writers, journalists, and readers of all types — in shared support of the freedom to seek and to express ideas, even those some consider unorthodox or unpopular. The theme for Banned Books Week 2023 is “Let Freedom Read.”
The Lewes Public Library, ACLU of Delaware, Groome Church, and Browseabout Books are celebrating Banned Books Week with the library’s first ever Tournament of Banned Books.
Show your love for Banned Books and join in the fight against censorship by voting for your favorite titles! When we stand up for stories, we unleash the power in every book and every voice.
Come back every day to select your favorite Banned Books from each of the four categories: Adult, Classics, Teens, and Children. Voting is available online or in-person at the library. Be sure to stay tuned for the big reveal of Lewes Public Library’s favorite Banned Book of 2023 on Saturday, October 7!
Voting starts Monday, October 2nd!
