Day in Old New Castle
May 11 @ 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm
This year’s theme is the Stories Ignited: 1824 Great Fire of New Castle. As a result of the fire most of the homes on The Strand were destroyed, with the Gunning Bedford House and the Read House surviving, but that is not all that survives. The townspeople worked together as well as received support from all over our young nation, even as far away as Boston. The community was rebuilt to preserve our gorgeous brick architecture, creating one of the most beautiful Federal Streets in Old New Castle. To commemorate the 100th year Good Will Fire Company and other fire companies will be hosting antique fire engines and equipment, plus homes and gardens with their stories before, after, and during the event. This is a family event, with many of the activities free of charge.
