Getting Your Money to Your Loved Ones

📢 What if the money your loved ones were meant to receive is sitting unclaimed simply because they were never told?

Every year, billions of dollars in life-insurance and retirement benefits go unclaimed often simply because no one knows they exist. Here are two wake-up calls:
¡        According to the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC), over $6 billion in life‐insurance and annuity benefits have been reunited with beneficiaries via their “policy locator” tool that’s just one tool of many.
¡        Meanwhile the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation (PBGC) and the U.S. Department of Labor note that as many as 29 million retirement accounts are “lost or forgotten,” holding >$1 trillion in assets.

What’s going on? Here are the culprits:
¡        A loved one had a policy or 401(k) but never told family or provided paperwork.
¡        The insurer or plan administrator can’t find the beneficiary.
¡        When people switch jobs, move, or change addresses, retirement accounts get left behind.

Why this matters:
¡        This is not some arcane won’t-happen-to-me scenario. Many ordinary people are the beneficiaries of policies or accounts they don’t even know exist.
¡        If nobody knows to claim the money, it doesn’t grow, sit idle, or worse, it gets absorbed by state unclaimed property programs or disappears in the shuffle.
¡        Taking action now = turning what’s been lost into what’s owed, especially in an era where financial uncertainty is real.
What you can do right now (and share with others):
1️⃣ Check the free tools, every state has a lost money platform)
2️⃣ Save your important documents in an online SOC-2 certified platform.
3️⃣ Communicate!!! Let your loved ones know who the beneficiaries are and update this regularly as life keeps moving.

Think of it as one more way to show love by being organized. The policy you paid for, the retirement account you built. They all tell a story of someone planning for what comes next. Don’t let them fade into the “lost and forgotten” category.
