Candidates for the office of State Representative from the 41st District, John Atkins (Republican) and Ryan Stuckley (Democrat), will field questions from the audience at a public forum hosted by the League of Women Voters of Sussex County on Thursday, October 15, from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m., at the Selbyville Public Library, 11 W. McCabe St., Selbyville.
Delaware’s 41st Representative District includes the southeastern Sussex County towns of Millsboro, Dagsboro, Frankford, Gumboro and a portion of Selbyville. The state representative’s core legislative duties are to make laws, set the budget, manage taxes, vote on whether to override or uphold vetoes made by the governor, and serve on committees such as finance, education, or health.
The League encourages everyone who attends the forum to bring a written question, legibly printed on a three by five card. Note cards and pencils for posing questions will also be available at the door and from monitors in the aisles throughout the program. Questions should be related specifically to the office candidates are running for and must be directed to both candidates. ASL Connections will provide sign language interpretation.
Both candidates will be asked to post background information and their answers to questions on key local issues on www.VOTE411.org, the League of Women Voters’ online voters’ guide. Information on candidates for other state and Sussex County offices can also be found on the VOTE411 website. Voters can compare candidates for state and local offices side-by-side and print a customized ballot, as well as register to vote, apply for absentee ballots, or learn about voting rules and procedures in Delaware.
To maintain a neutral atmosphere at the forum, the League prohibits electioneering in the room, including wearing clothing, hats, buttons or other items promoting either candidate. The League of Women Voters is a nonpartisan organization that does not support or oppose any political party or candidate for elective office.
