PRESS RELEASE: “Second Street Players announced auditions for “The Gin Game,” written by D.L. Coburn, will be held at 6 p.m., Monday and Tuesday, Nov. 28 and 29, at the Riverfront Theater, 2 S Walnut St., Milford. Director Chris Miller and Assistant Director Marge Ventura said auditions will be cold readings from the script. Casting will be for one male and one female, portraying people in their 70s.

The story is set in a nursing home, where senior citizen Weller Martin meets Fonsia Dorsey on the porch and strikes up a friendship, later offering to teach her how to play gin rummy. As they play, they share stories about their lives. But because Fonsia wins every hand, Weller becomes increasingly frustrated, until their gin games and conversations become a battleground, with each player exposing the other’s failures, disappointments and insecurities. The story uses the card game as a metaphor for life.

Performance dates are Friday to Sunday, Jan. 27 to 29 and Feb 3 to 5. To be considered for casting, those auditioning must be available for all performances and during the two weeks prior to opening night.
