Brian Wilson: Long Promised Road at Cinema Art Theater
December 2, 2021
Starts Wednesday, November 17
Brian Wilson: Long Promised Road is an entertaining documentary about a legendary musical genius.
Join The Beach Boys’ co-founder Brian Wilson on an intimate journey through his famous career as he reminisces with Rolling Stone editor and longtime friend, Jason Fine. The duo cruise around the city of L.A., which Wilson knows so well, to visit old haunts and give him the opportunity to reflect on his life and music. The documentary features a new song “Right Where I Belong” written specifically for this film and performed by Wilson. Weighing in are admirers and those close to him including interviews with Elton John, Bruce Springsteen, and Nick Jonas among others. This enjoyable, informative, and at times heart-tugging road trip provides both a first-hand, intimate look into Wilson’s storied life and further inspiration to anyone who has been touched by his music. [2021, US, 93 min, Rated: NR]
Sheri Linden of the Hollywood Reporter writes, “In his interactions with his band, with Fine, with his family, the documentary is a portrait of friendship and love as much as it’s about music.” Christopher Bourne of In Review Online says, “The intended effect isn’t to feel sorry for Wilson; instead, it’s to marvel at the strength it took to survive, persevere, and emerge on the other side, damaged but still intact.”
