Commenting on the upcoming concert, Groome’s pastor, Rev. Dr. Willard Crossan III said, “When the opportunity arose to present Charlie Zahm in concert this summer we contacted Mike Safina, president of the Overfalls to see if they would partner with us and host the concert in Canalfront Park; Groome and the Overfalls have a long history dating back to the early 1900s. Happily, the Overfalls Foundation said yes. The event will be a midsummer gift to the town to celebrate our maritime history and having successfully navigated our way through the pandemic.”
For his part, Charlie Zahm said, “I love coming to Lewes. I love its history and its people who are always welcoming and — I might add — a terrific audience! I have been by Canalfront Park many times and often thought it would be a great venue for an outdoor concert so I’m especially delighted to be performing there. I’m looking forward to a good turnout, and hoping for fair skies and a breeze off the bay.” He then added, “And a tour of the Lightship would also be very nice (hint).”
The evening will include a pass-the-hat for Family Promise of Southern Delaware (FPSDE). Family Promise unites faith-based and other community groups to help prevent homelessness through financial support, lodging and hospitality, and stabilization support for families with children in housing distress. familypromisesouthernde.org
The concert is being made possible by the kindness and cooperation of Friends of Lewes Canalfront Park, City of Lewes Parks and Recreation, and Anchor Coffee House at Historic Groome Church.
