Rehoboth Beach Jazz Festival

October 14, 2021 - October 17, 2021

About The Festival

When fall approaches and the weather in Rehoboth Beach is cooling down, the music is just starting to heat up!

Established in 1989, our unique group has been orchestrating events bringing national and international Grammy Award winning artists to Coastal Southern Delaware…Our festival is local and our artists are global.

The Delaware Celebration of Jazz, producer of the Rehoboth Beach Jazz Festival, is a 501[c][3] non-profit corporation with our headquarters for 29 years only in Sussex County, Delaware. Our goal throughout the years has been to raise money to help the Beebe Medical Foundation fund the Tunnell Cancer Center. The Tunnell Cancer Center has over 35,000 visits a year. Each year they have over 2,500 new patients, seeing approximately 150 patients each day. When a patron purchases tickets and donates to our cause, it helps us not only fight the devastating disease of cancer, but also contributes to the ongoing research & the purchase of state-of-the-art equipment for the Tunnell Cancer Center. Our efforts are to help our Sussex County family members and friends beat this disease and live a normal life while battling cancer.

4 Stages

Our “Main Stages” include Rehoboth Beach Convention Center, Cape Henlopen Performing Arts Theater, Rusty Rudder and Epworth Church.  But we are also in many restaurants and smaller venues throughout Sussex County such as Sydney’s Restaurant, 1776, Indigo, The Room At Cedar Grove, Outlet Liquors, Dogfish Head Brewery and many others.

Community Involvement

Working throughout the greater Rehoboth community with education programs, supporting of non-profits, and our biggest involvement – Tunnel Cancer Center at Beebe Hospital.

Blood, Sweat & Tears

with opening “Soon to be Famous” Artist Vincent Ingala

bstgroup

No one can argue BS&T invented a new style of music. From the first ensemble in the late sixties practicing in a loft on Bleeker Street in New York’s Greenwich Village and having crowds clapping on the street below between songs, founding member and drummer Bobby Colomby knew they were on the right course. Since then, the band has never stopped touring for over 50 years. From Woodstock, to being the first rock band to play behind the Iron Curtain, to 10 Grammy Nominations (and winning 3!), BS&T’s music is timeless, and fans are never disappointed!

As much of an entertainer as he is a musician, Yamaha Performing Artist Vincent Ingala has been wowing live audiences as a regular on the popular smooth jazz festival and cruise circuit for several years. His fun-loving stage presence, combined with an obvious passion for playing, elevates the crowd to an exciting frenzy.

Art Sherrod Jr. – CD Release Party

Come join us as Art officially releases his latest CD “Art of Love“.  “Art of Love” touches on all the elements of love.  You will thoroughly enjoy the ride as Art performs some of the biggest hit songs pertaining to love.

Art Sherrod Jr is “…a man who loves music, a man who loves art, respects the spirit world and thinks with his heart.”  He is equal parts heart and soul and it seems as if God gave him an extra dose of expression through music.  Art is a work in progress, so he is the first to tell you that his taste in music varies greatly, but the influence of growing up in Texas created an appreciation for everything from Country & Western, to Rock N’ Roll, Rap, Hip-Hop, to Gospel and of course Jazz! But it all began in church sitting alongside his amazing mother who sang and played the B-3 organ and father who sang in the male chorus.

    Marion Meadows & Alex Bugnon

Marion Meadows was born in West Virginia and grew up in Stamford, Connecticut. He began playing the clarinet and studying classical music at the age of nine. After studying jazz at Rippowam High School in Stamford, CT, Meadows attended Berklee College of Music. There he majored in arranging and composition. He later went to the SUNY Purchase School for the Arts. During his college years he played in a number of bands including disco, R&B and various jazz ensmbles. Meadows first hit the airwaves in 1991 with “For Lovers Only” which was a huge success and was followed by his ground breaking “Keep it Right There” album. He became a staple of the contemporary jazz format with his subsequent recordings. He is also a semi-pro cyclist, graphic artist and designer, and has received a doctorate from Wilberforce University

Alex Bugnon has been a prolific, energetic force on the contemporary music scene for almost three decades. A renowned musician, composer and bandleader, Bugnon hales from the picturesque town of Caux, Switzerland – 4 miles above Montreux, site of the world famous Jazz Festival. No doubt, the annual convergence in his hometown and in his own home, of some of music’s most illustrious names played a role in his decision to pursue a musical career, as did his early friendship with Herbie Hancock. The fact that his uncle was the legendary Donald Byrd only served to further his decision.

    Joey Alexander

Now far beyond his early days hoopla, Alexander channels what he sees, hears and feels throughout his life and travels into his astonishing melodic gift and natural aptitude for spontaneous collaboration. The more appropriate thing to call him would be “major-label artist,” given that he’s now signed to Verve and performed with such greats as Chick Corea, Wayne Shorter, and bassist Esperanza Spalding. Joey, at the age of 12, was the youngest jazz artist to be show cased at the Grammy Awards. Today, he’s simply become one of the most expressive and thrilling pianist-composers currently at work in jazz.

    Boney James

Boney James is a four-time Grammy Award nominee (Best Pop Instrumental Album, 2001, 2004, 2014 and Best Traditional R&B Performance, 2009) and a Soul Train Award winner (Best Jazz Album 1998). He has also been honored with two NAACP Image Award nominations for Best Jazz Album.[1] James has sold over three million albums,[2] and has accumulated four RIAA Certified Gold Records. In 2009, Billboard magazine named James one of the Top 3 Billboard Contemporary Jazz Artists of the Decade.

According to the Boston Globe: “Let’s make something perfectly clear: James is not a smooth jazz player. Yeah, he is often grouped with people like Kenny G and Najee, but his music is muscular and gritty, whereas most smooth jazz has all the texture and complexity of a cue ball…James swaggered across the stage like a blacktop hero draining treys on an overmatched opponent. He even weaved his way through the audience, never missing a beat and all but daring the crowd not to have a good time.”
