“The Electrical Life of Louis Wann” at Cinema Art Theater
An event every day that begins at 12:00 am, repeating until October 28, 2021
Starts Friday, October 22
The Electrical Life of Louis Wain is an extraordinary true story of a Victorian-era artist whose playful and surreal pictures helped to transform the public’s perception of cats forever.
In a dazzling performance, Benedict Cumberbatch (Sherlock, The Imitation Game) plays Louis Wain, one of Britain’s most influential eccentrics in the late 19th century. To support his widowed mother and five younger sisters, Louis uses his art academy training and begins to sell drawings of animals from the county fair. His skilled and surreal portraiture attracts an audience, yet his complicated mind keeps him from engaging much with society. Then he meets a kind governess (The Crown’s Claire Foy) who helps him see his life in a way he never imagined possible. Using dynamic visual techniques and alive with imagination in every scene, The Electrical Life of Louis Wain shows just how we came to live in a cat’s world. [2021, UK, 111 min, Rated: PG-13]
Ian Sandwell of the Digital Spy writes, “A magical and moving biopic that proves to be one of Benedict Cumberbatch’s best movies.” Jeanne Kaplan of Kaplan vs. Kaplan writes, “This enchanting biopic will make you fall in love with felines, if you aren’t already.”
