How many of us have said “I just don’t know where that last month went!” And now it is edging toward summer which means that friends and family will be gleefully visiting and ready for action. Besides the beach, what’s there to do? The short answer is PLENTY! Making the most of “things to do” is going to require some careful planning.
The Lewes Historical Society’s 13th Annual Mid Atlantic Sea Glass and Coastal Arts Festival takes place on Saturday and Sunday June 7 and 8. The event takes place at the organization’s property on Shipcarpenter Street, just north of St Peter’s Church, from 9 am to 4 pm each day. The event features one of the largest sea glass collections in the region and brings together 70 venders and artists who will display their creations. The Delmarva Antique Bottle Club (yes, there is such a thing) will be on hand to examine and help identify the ages and origins of sea glass shards that collectors bring to the festival.
Educational lectures are scheduled both days on the “history of sea glass” and other sea glass-related topics.
Musical entertainment includes the Pros from Dover on June 7 from 9 am – 12 noon and Little Hustle from noon to 4 pm. On June 8, the lineup includes The Jazzmen from 9 am to 12 noon and Rick and Regina from noon to 4 pm.
The event also features glass/blowing demonstrations, a Native American artifact display, a flint knapping demonstration, and a variety of activities for children. Flint knapping is the ancient technique of shaping stone tools by removing flakes from a core using a hammer and other tools.
There is a $10 entrance fee each day.
The 19th Annual Bethany Seaside Beach Craft Show is also on June 7. This popular event draws large crowds. It takes place along the Bethany boardwalk, bandstand area, Hollywood and Parkwood Streets. The Joe Baione Trio will perform jazz favorites from 11 am to 3 pm at the bandstand.
The 68th Old Timers Day Car Show and Fest is happening on Saturday, June 14 from 8 am to 3 pm in Selbyville. It is the Saturday pf Father’s Day weekend. The event features classic cars from various decades dating back to 1910.
The 34th Annual Lewes Garden Tour is set for Saturday, June 21 from 10 am to 4 pm. Like the Lewes House Tour, booklets are provided for those who purchase tickets.
