Best Cup of Joe? Jury’s Out, With Plenty of Options Here in Southern DE

Fresh-brewed, wake-me-up beans. Some folks just can’t start their day without that traditional jolt of energy and “ahhh,” and often swear by certain local roasters, once they find their Delaware java jibe.

Milky white, straight black, lots of sugar? However you prefer your cup, we’ve got some great places for you to try!

For a twist on flavor and an introduction to 2nd Street shopping in Lewes, check out Notting Hill Roastery, a cozy and aromatic cafe, where beans are roasted in-house with 79 sumptuous flavors such as Sticky Bun, Mocha Mint and Wild Delaware. Smelling the unique scents wafting through the shop, you’ll want to be doubly mischievous by treating yourself to the on-site patisserie, Lewes Bake Shoppe, featuring ooey-gooey sticky buns, and plenty of other breakfast and lunch specialties. It’s a marriage of indulgence!

If you’re in a shopping mood, experience The Station on King’s, a hybrid of coffee, bakery and home and garden delights! Just outside Lewes’ historic district, it’s a destination-worthy experience featuring local products and plenty of gift ideas (perfect little treats for your wife’s sister visiting next week…)

The Point, in Rehoboth offers certified organic and fair trade beans and plenty of varieties of brew, including espressos, lattes, cappuccino and iced specialties. It’s a favorite mellow atmosphere for beachy visitors and locals. The Point is also a go-to for pastry treats, du jour specials and lunch items – mostly sourced from local farms and businesses. Would love an example of a sandwich name… or menu item with a cute name here. (Hungry yet?)

Rise Up Coffee Roasters, a Delmarva-based chain is a laid-back purveyor of fair trade, locally roasted coffee, a local treasure. If you don’t have the time wait in their sometimes long lines, consider purchasing their packaged roasts. Soon the citrus smell of their Organic Breakfast roast or the sweet and strong scents of Honey Arabica will fill your home with their enticing aromas!

Finally, for the consummate connoisseur, there’s Gaia Coffee Co., (named in honor of the Greek god known as “mother earth,”) is available at Old World Breads, local farmers markets and online exclusively to Lewes and Rehoboth zip code residents. Strictly sourced from Costa Rican beans, their “small batch” roasts start from their mission attached to each precious cup. The owners purchase directly from farmers to ensure sustainable and fair wage practices.

You can’t go wrong around here with all of these choices for a superb “cuppa!” Whether you grab one on your walk down the boardwalk, pick one up after a morning jog, or sit and really drink in the moment, there are plenty of options (and even more opportunities) to ENJOY!

on the beach first…to a local café… or a stroll down the boardwalk / or city centre…popping in as the local smells call you, etc.)
