Lunch With a Purpose Raises More Than $10,000 for Habitat for Humanity

Community luncheon also collects more than 1,000 pounds of food for the Food Bank of Delaware

Lunch With a Purpose of Coastal Delaware raised $10,336 for Sussex County Habitat for Humanity and collected 1,081 pounds of canned goods and other nonperishable food items for the Food Bank of Delaware during its October 7 luncheon.

Held at the Atlantic Sands Hotel in Rehoboth Beach, the event welcomed 194 guests who gathered to support local causes and learn more about the organizations making a difference in the community.

Lindsay Dodge, program director at Sussex County Habitat for Humanity, introduced Haley Alexander, a recent Habitat homeowner, who shared her personal experience with the organization.

Jaime McNatt, a Habitat board member, highlighted the organization’s impact in Sussex County. Habitat has assisted approximately 5,000 residents, built or rehabilitated 210 homes, and repaired or preserved more than 600 additional structures. McNatt also noted that building a single home typically requires about 2,000 volunteer hours.

Lunch With a Purpose hosts luncheons on the first Wednesday of each month from September through May. The gatherings give selected nonprofit organizations an opportunity to share their missions and raise funds while guests enjoy a social occasion that supports meaningful community work.

The next luncheon is scheduled for November 4 at Baywood Country Club in Millsboro and will benefit the Fostering Wishes Foundation.
